Passengers scheduled to travel aboard an Air Peace flight from Lagos to London’s Gatwick Airport were left stranded after the airline abruptly suspended the service following the discovery of a technical issue on the aircraft moments before departure.
The disruption, which affected dozens of passengers preparing to travel to the United Kingdom, occurred after boarding had already been completed and the aircraft was preparing for takeoff.
Air Peace confirmed the incident in an official statement released on Saturday through its social media platforms, explaining that engineers detected what it described as a “minor aircraft fault” during a routine technical inspection conducted after passengers had boarded the aircraft.
According to the airline, the technical issue triggered immediate safety protocols, forcing the aircraft to be withdrawn from operation pending further assessment and repairs by maintenance personnel.
“Following the completion of passenger boarding, a routine post-boarding technical check identified a minor aircraft fault that required immediate attention,” the airline stated.
The company explained that after the issue was discovered, all passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft while engineers moved in to diagnose and resolve the fault before the plane could be cleared for operation.
Air Peace stressed that the decision to suspend the flight was taken purely on safety grounds and in line with international aviation procedures and standards.
The airline maintained that no commercial schedule or operational pressure could override passenger safety and aircraft airworthiness requirements.
“At Air Peace, the safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew will always take precedence over operational schedules,” the statement read.

The airline stated that a replacement aircraft would be deployed from London to evacuate the stranded passengers and resume the disrupted operation.
“To minimise further disruption, a replacement aircraft from London will be dispatched and passengers are scheduled to depart this morning,” Air Peace announced.
The airline further thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation throughout the period of uncertainty and reassured them of its commitment to safety, professionalism, and reliable service delivery.
