The OK Movement, a political support platform established to promote collaboration among supporters of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has appointed former National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), High Chief Peter Ameh, as its National Director-General.
The movement said the appointment forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen nationwide mobilisation efforts, deepen grassroots engagement and expand its organisational presence across the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the National Convener of the movement, Hon. Jackie Wayas, who said the decision was unanimously approved by the organisation’s steering committee after a careful assessment of Ameh’s experience in politics, democratic governance and public service.
According to Wayas, the emergence of Ameh as National Director-General represents a significant milestone in the movement’s efforts to consolidate its structures and provide strategic leadership as it intensifies political engagement across Nigeria.
He described Ameh as an experienced political leader, democracy advocate and statesman whose record in public service, electoral reform and nation-building makes him well suited for the new responsibility.
Wayas noted that Ameh’s previous role as National Chairman of IPAC positioned him as one of the prominent voices in Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly through his advocacy for electoral reforms, political inclusion and stronger democratic institutions.
“The Steering Committee is delighted to welcome High Chief Peter Ameh as the National Director-General of the OK Movement,” Wayas said.
“His wealth of experience in politics, leadership and nation-building makes him the ideal person to provide strategic direction as we continue to build a united platform for national transformation.”
The National Convener added that the committee was confident that Ameh’s leadership would strengthen the movement’s organisational framework, deepen nationwide participation and enhance its capacity to mobilise citizens around a shared vision of a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.
According to the statement, Ameh has consistently championed accountability, transparency, good governance and institutional reforms, earning respect from stakeholders across different political tendencies in the country.
The movement said his appointment comes at a period when it is seeking to broaden its grassroots network and encourage wider democratic participation ahead of the next general election.
Wayas stated that the organisation remains committed to promoting visionary leadership, national unity and people-centred governance, stressing that it would continue to mobilise Nigerians around democratic values, responsible leadership and national development.
The statement further described the OK Movement as one of the emerging political support structures working to encourage cooperation among progressive political forces, especially supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso, while also promoting democratic participation and good governance ahead of the 2027 polls.
Political observers say the appointment is likely to boost the movement’s organisational profile, given Ameh’s longstanding involvement in party administration and inter-party engagement.
As former chairman of IPAC, Ameh played a prominent role in coordinating political parties and advocating reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system and democratic institutions.
