Ogun Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Murder of Retired OGTV Broadcaster, Security Guard; Prime Suspect Says Attack Was Meant to “Teach Her a Lesson”

The Ogun State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome murder of retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, with the arrest of three suspects allegedly responsible for the killings.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the development during a press briefing held on Thursday at the State Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta. He revealed that the principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, confessed to participating in the crime and claimed that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson” over grievances stemming from his previous employment with the deceased.

The police commissioner provided a detailed account of the investigation, which he said combined intelligence gathering, forensic analysis, technical tracking, and coordinated field operations that eventually led to the arrest of all identified suspects connected to the double murder.

According to CP Ojajuni, the tragic incident came to the attention of law enforcement authorities on June 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when a report was lodged at the Owode-Egba Police Station regarding suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence.

Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately deployed to the location to assess the situation and determine whether criminal activity had occurred.

Initial observations at the scene raised serious concerns. Investigators discovered that the front entrance to the residence had been partially damaged, while the security house within the compound was found locked under unusual circumstances.

The disturbing findings prompted detectives to gain access to the premises for further examination.

Upon entering the property, officers made a shocking discovery.

“Police detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene. Upon gaining access to the premises, the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo, male, aged 38 years, the security guard, was discovered inside the security house, while the body of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood within the living room of the main building,” the police commissioner said.

The discovery confirmed that both victims had been violently killed, prompting the Command to launch a full-scale homicide investigation.

According to the commissioner, investigators immediately secured and scientifically processed the crime scene to preserve evidence that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.

Preliminary findings also revealed that Madam Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330 sports utility vehicle was missing from the compound, suggesting that robbery may have been one of the motives behind the attack.

The disappearance of the vehicle added another dimension to the investigation, prompting detectives to pursue both homicide and vehicle-tracking leads simultaneously.

CP Ojajuni explained that the Command immediately activated a combination of intelligence-based operations and technical surveillance measures aimed at identifying the culprits and locating the missing vehicle.

Their efforts produced significant results within 24 hours.

“Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking analysis, operatives of the Command successfully traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased on June 22, 2026,” he disclosed.

Although the suspects had allegedly removed the vehicle’s ignition key and detached its registration number plates in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity, detectives recovered the registration plates hidden beneath one of the seats.

The discovery enabled investigators to positively confirm that the vehicle belonged to Madam Oyesiku.

One of the most critical breakthroughs in the investigation, according to the police, came from a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the crime scene.

The note was subjected to forensic examination, and investigators reportedly obtained valuable clues from the analysis.

“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime,” Ojajuni stated.

The forensic findings, combined with intelligence gathered from various sources, eventually led detectives to the principal suspect.

On June 24, 2026, police operatives arrested Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip at a construction site in Ibara Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, where he was reportedly working as a labourer.

Following his arrest, investigators launched additional operations that led to the apprehension of two alleged accomplices.

The other suspects were identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

Police authorities said the arrests effectively brought into custody all identified members of the criminal conspiracy behind the murders.

During interrogation, Philip reportedly made a confessional statement admitting his involvement in the crime.

The police commissioner said the suspect also implicated the two other suspects, claiming that he recruited them to participate in the operation.

“During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement, admitting his involvement in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He further disclosed that he had recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho to participate in the crime,” Ojajuni said.

According to the suspect’s confession, his actions were motivated by grievances he allegedly harboured against Madam Oyesiku from the period he worked as a security guard under her employment.

Investigators said Philip claimed the objective of the attack was to “teach her a lesson.”

The commissioner further revealed details of how the operation was allegedly carried out.

According to the police, the three suspects executed the attack on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Investigators believe the suspects first subdued the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, before using him to gain access to the residence.

Once inside, they allegedly attacked Madam Oyesiku and later killed the security guard as well.

“The suspects carried out the act on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the afternoon. According to the statement, they first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” Ojajuni stated.

After allegedly killing both victims, the suspects reportedly fled with the deceased’s Lexus RX 330.

The vehicle was later recovered in the Onikolobo area through intelligence-led operations and technical tracking.

The police also disclosed that follow-up searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several items believed to be connected to the crime.

Among the exhibits recovered were a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank, a black pen, and other materials considered relevant to the investigation.

“Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted further searches at locations linked to them. During the operation, a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other relevant exhibits connected to the investigation were recovered,” the commissioner said.

Despite the progress recorded, CP Ojajuni emphasized that the suspects remain entitled to their constitutional rights and due process under the law.

He noted that investigations are continuing to consolidate evidence and ensure a watertight prosecution.

“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law. Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime,” he stated.

The commissioner assured the public that the Command remains committed to securing justice for the victims and ensuring that everyone connected to the brutal killings is held accountable.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” he added.
