The tragic incident has sent shockwaves across Ogun State and the media community, with colleagues, family members and residents expressing grief over the loss of the respected broadcaster.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident and disclosed that detectives have launched an intensive manhunt for those responsible.
According to the police, the incident was first reported by a resident of Iyana Agodo village, who alerted officers at the Owode Egba Divisional Police Headquarters after noticing suspicious activities around the deceased’s residence.
Following the distress report, detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene to assess the situation and commence investigations.
Babaseyi stated that preliminary findings revealed signs suggesting that the premises had been forcefully entered before the attack.
“Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary assessment revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance,” he said.
During a detailed search of the property, officers made the grim discovery of the security guard’s body inside the security post located within the compound.
The search was subsequently extended into the residence, where the lifeless body of Kitan Oyesiku was found inside her apartment.
Police also observed that the deceased’s vehicle was missing from the premises, raising suspicions that it may have been stolen by the attackers after the killings.
Investigators are currently examining all available evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, establish the motive for the attack and identify those responsible.
The Police Public Relations Officer disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has directed that every available investigative resource be deployed to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
“The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Babaseyi said.
“An intensive investigation is ongoing to unravel the facts, track down and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act while ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.”
As part of the investigation, the command has expanded surveillance operations and intelligence gathering across strategic locations that may assist detectives in tracing the suspects and recovering the missing vehicle.
According to the police, security operatives are working with relevant intelligence units to analyse available leads while strengthening patrols in affected areas.
“Surveillance and intelligence-led operations have been expanded across relevant locations as part of ongoing proactive measures,” the statement added.
The command described the killings as deeply unfortunate and extended its condolences to the bereaved family as well as members of the Ogun State Television community, where Oyesiku built a distinguished broadcasting career.
The police also sympathised with colleagues in the media industry and all those affected by the tragic development.
“The Ogun State Police Command commiserates with the family of the deceased, the Ogun State Television family, the media community and everyone affected by this painful loss,” the statement said.
The command assured residents that no effort would be spared in uncovering the circumstances surrounding the killings and ensuring that those responsible face the full weight of the law.

According to the command, credible information from residents could play a vital role in identifying the perpetrators and facilitating their arrest.
The police urged citizens to promptly report suspicious movements or individuals through the nearest police formation or established emergency communication channels.
Although authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the attack, investigators are exploring all possible angles, including armed robbery and other criminal activities, while awaiting the outcome of forensic and intelligence analyses.
