NDC Reps Caucus Reaffirms Loyalty To Party, Vows To Hold Federal Government Accountable Ahead Of 2027

Members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in the House of Representatives have reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and pledged to intensify efforts toward holding the Federal Government accountable ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers made the declaration on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, at his residence in Abuja.

The delegation was led by the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Victor Afam Ogene, and included several lawmakers elected on the platform of the party.

Among those present at the meeting were George Ozodinobi, Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Lillian Orogbu, Atta Achief, Chijioke Okereke, Peter Ozokwe, Murphy Omoruyi, Emeka Idu, Manuchim Omezuruike, Muktar Zakari, Yusuf Datti, Peter Aniekwe and Uchenna Okonkwo.

Also present during the meeting were former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other prominent leaders and stakeholders of the NDC.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Ogene said the visit was aimed at reassuring the party leadership of the lawmakers’ commitment to the ideals and vision of the NDC, particularly in the area of effective opposition politics and service to Nigerians.

“This evening, we are here as members of the House of Representatives Caucus of the NDC to reassure you of our commitment to serve the people of Nigeria in keeping with the motto of our party, service to the people,” Ogene stated.

The Minority Leader said the caucus remained determined to play a strong oversight role in the National Assembly by ensuring that the government remained accountable to the Nigerian people.

According to him, democracy could only thrive when elected representatives actively monitored the activities of the executive arm of government and demanded improved welfare for citizens.

“In rendering this service, we will hold the government of the day accountable to the people so that they would render to the Nigerian people the basic necessities associated with democracy and civil rule,” he said.

Ogene further described the NDC as the leading opposition platform in the House of Representatives, stressing that the growing number of lawmakers aligning with the party had strengthened its influence both within and outside parliament.

“We are now the major opposition party in Parliament, especially the House of Representatives, from where we operate and with this number, our voice will be strengthened and heard,” he stated.

According to him, the caucus intends to use its growing presence in the legislature to amplify issues affecting ordinary Nigerians and ensure that government officials remain responsive to public concerns.

“It will reverberate across not just Nigeria but across the world to hold the government to their responsibilities,” Ogene added.

The lawmaker also used the opportunity to pledge the caucus’s loyalty to both the party leadership and the Nigerian people.

“We assure you of our commitment, we assure you of our loyalty to the party, and we assure you of our loyalty to the Nigerian people. Thank you for receiving us, Your Excellencies,” he said.

Responding to the delegation, Kwankwaso commended the lawmakers for remaining loyal to the party, describing loyalty as a rare virtue in contemporary Nigerian politics.

The former governor expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for identifying with the party leadership and maintaining faith in the party’s vision despite the country’s complex political climate.

“We have to thank you for the loyalty, which of course, is a very rare commodity these days,” Kwankwaso said.

“We appreciate you, and we want to assure you on behalf of the leader and the party that we’ll continue to do whatever it takes to carry you with us so that together we can succeed,” he added.

Kwankwaso also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to register with the NDC and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to him, broad participation in the electoral process would be crucial to achieving the political change the party seeks to deliver.

“Let me take the opportunity also to urge Nigerians to ensure that they register with the NDC and also register with INEC as voters. That will give everybody the opportunity to bring the required positive change that is coming by the grace of God in 2027,” he stated.

The former presidential candidate further urged party members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation across their constituencies and communities.

“I also want to urge our members, all of you, to go back to our constituencies, mobilise our people, especially the young men and women, and of course the nationalists that are supporting the change we are talking about in this country,” he added.

Political observers say the meeting reflects ongoing efforts by the NDC leadership to consolidate its structure within the National Assembly and strengthen opposition coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The visit also comes amid increasing political realignments and coalition-building activities among opposition figures seeking to challenge the ruling party in the next election cycle.
