A grandmother has made a heartfelt appeal to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, urging him to intensify efforts toward securing the release of students and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The emotional plea came on Saturday, May 30, as families of the victims continued to grapple with uncertainty and anguish following the abduction incident that has generated widespread concern across Oyo State and beyond.
Speaking in a video that has since circulated on social media, the elderly woman, visibly distressed and overwhelmed by grief, called on Governor Makinde and relevant security agencies to do everything within their power to rescue the captives and reunite them with their families.
According to her, four of her grandchildren and her daughter-in-law are among those currently being held by the kidnappers. She explained that the pain of not knowing their condition or whereabouts has become almost unbearable for the family.
In her emotional appeal delivered in Yoruba language, the woman pleaded with the governor to intervene urgently and ensure the safe return of the victims.
“Please help us because of God. Have mercy on us. I have four of my grandchildren and my daughter-in-law with the kidnappers. My daughter-in-law, who is a teacher, is the one holding a baby in the viral video. Please help us. Please help us rescue our children,” she said.
Her daughter-in-law, a teacher, was reportedly among those abducted during the attack. The woman noted that the teacher was seen carrying a baby in one of the videos released by the kidnappers, a sight that has further heightened fears about the welfare and safety of the victims.
The grandmother’s appeal reflects the growing anxiety among families whose loved ones remain in captivity. Relatives of the abducted students and teachers have continued to call on government authorities, security agencies, community leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to support efforts aimed at securing their release.
The abduction has sparked widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the recurring attacks on schools and educational institutions across the country. Stakeholders have also renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect students, teachers and school communities from criminal activities.
For the affected families, however, the priority remains the safe return of their loved ones. The elderly woman’s emotional plea has resonated with many Nigerians, drawing sympathy and renewed attention to the plight of those still being held captive.
As rescue efforts continue, families remain hopeful that government intervention and ongoing security operations will lead to the safe release of the victims.
For the grieving grandmother and many others facing similar anguish, every passing day deepens the pain of separation. Their prayers and hopes remain fixed on one outcome—the safe return of their children, grandchildren and loved ones from captivity.
