Anxiety as NYSC Member, Lawyer Disappears in Abuja After Leaving Work

Fear and uncertainty have gripped the family, friends, and colleagues of a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Miss Eunice Ameh, following her sudden disappearance in Abuja under circumstances that remain unclear.

Ameh, who is currently serving in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was reportedly last seen while returning home after work in the Maitama area of Abuja, sparking growing concerns about her safety and whereabouts.

The missing corps member, who is also a lawyer, had recently secured employment with Blades and Butchers Ltd., a company involved in livestock sales and value-added agricultural products. The company is located along Lake Chad Crescent in Maitama, one of Abuja’s major commercial districts.

Family members disclosed that Ameh had only resumed duties at the company about two weeks before she went missing.

According to sources close to the family, she had quickly adapted to her new role as Sales Manager and was said to be enthusiastic about balancing her professional career with the final phase of her NYSC programme.

“She is the Sales Manager of the company and she resumed work barely two weeks ago,” a family source revealed.

The source further explained that Ameh was expected to participate in her final Community Development Service (CDS) activity as a corps member on Thursday before completing her mandatory national service in the coming days.

“She was meant to participate in her last CDS yesterday and would have been passing out soon afterwards,” the source added.

The situation reportedly became alarming after Ameh failed to return home following work on Tuesday evening.

According to accounts provided by family members, the young lawyer was last seen at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, after she closed from work and began her journey home.

“She left the office around 5:40 p.m. and was heading towards the junction leading to Life Camp,” the source explained.

Life Camp, where Ameh reportedly resides in a corps members’ lodge, is a densely populated residential district in Abuja that accommodates many young professionals and NYSC members.

Family members said they initially assumed she may have encountered transportation delays or network issues. However, concerns intensified after repeated attempts to contact her proved unsuccessful.

“All her phone lines have remained switched off since then,” another source disclosed.

Friends and relatives reportedly spent several hours trying to reach her throughout Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning without success.

Alarm over her disappearance escalated around 11 a.m. on Thursday after one of her close friends reportedly contacted the family to inform them that Ameh had not returned home from work.

“Around 11 a.m. on Thursday, one of her friends alerted the family that Eunice had not returned home after work and all attempts to contact her had failed,” the source said.

The development immediately triggered panic among family members and associates, who described the situation as deeply distressing and traumatic.

Sources said colleagues at her workplace also became worried after discovering that she neither reported to work nor communicated any reason for her absence.

Her disappearance has since generated widespread concern among fellow corps members in Abuja, especially those residing at the same lodge in Life Camp.

Some residents reportedly joined efforts to search nearby hospitals and police stations while awaiting updates from security agencies.

Family members confirmed that the incident has been formally reported to the Nigeria Police Force through the Maitama Police Division after her employers lodged an official complaint.

Authorities of the National Youth Service Corps were also said to have been informed of the situation.

“The family is devastated and in panic,” one source lamented.

“They are praying and hoping that the police investigation will help uncover her whereabouts quickly.”

The absence of communication from possible abductors has further complicated the situation, as no ransom demand or contact has reportedly been made since her disappearance.

“As of now, nobody has contacted the family to demand ransom or make any request,” the source stated.

“All her phones are still switched off.”

The lack of information surrounding the disappearance has heightened fears among relatives and friends, many of whom expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

Incidents involving missing persons, kidnappings, and attacks on commuters have continued to raise concerns among Abuja residents in recent months, particularly in areas connecting major districts to suburban communities.

Observers say the disappearance of a young lawyer and corps member in the nation’s capital further highlights the growing insecurity confronting ordinary Nigerians.

Security sources confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Police authorities were said to be working on tracing her phone records, movements, and possible last contacts in a bid to locate her.

Meanwhile, appeals have continued to pour in from friends and well-wishers urging anyone with useful information about Ameh’s whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or security agency.

Her disappearance has also sparked emotional reactions on social media, where many Nigerians expressed sympathy with the family and called on security agencies to intensify efforts toward finding her alive.

As investigations continue, relatives say they remain hopeful that Ameh will be found safe and reunited with her loved ones.
