In a congratulatory message issued to commemorate the milestone, Governor Soludo paid glowing tribute to Chief Anyaoku’s lifetime of service to Nigeria, Africa, and the international community, noting that his contributions to diplomacy, peace-building, and democratic governance have left an indelible mark on world affairs.

The governor described Chief Anyaoku as an eminent patriarch of diplomacy, a statesman of global repute, and a distinguished son of Anambra State whose life and career continue to inspire generations within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.

According to Soludo, Chief Anyaoku’s name is etched permanently in the annals of international diplomacy, particularly for his historic tenure as the third Commonwealth Secretary-General, a position he held with exceptional distinction and moral authority. During that period, Anyaoku was widely regarded as a steady voice of reason in a rapidly changing global order, navigating complex political transitions and championing the ideals of democracy, human rights, and sustainable development.

“Chief Emeka Anyaoku represents the very best of Nigeria on the global stage,” the governor said. “His illustrious service to the Commonwealth remains a masterclass in principled leadership, conflict resolution, and steadfast commitment to the common good.”

Governor Soludo recalled that as Secretary-General, Chief Anyaoku presided over critical moments in the history of the Commonwealth, including the struggles against apartheid, political instability in parts of Africa, and the push for democratic reforms across member states. His leadership, the governor noted, was characterised by calm diplomacy, moral clarity, and an unwavering belief in dialogue as a tool for resolving conflict.

Beyond his international accomplishments, Soludo emphasised that Chief Anyaoku’s influence has remained deeply rooted at home, where he continues to serve as a respected voice of wisdom and guidance in national affairs. He described the elder statesman as a model of intellectual rigour, ethical leadership, and patriotic devotion whose counsel has remained relevant across successive generations of Nigerian leaders.

“At home, Chief Anyaoku continues to inspire as a fountain of wisdom and a moral compass,” the governor stated. “His guidance, shaped by decades of experience and a deep love for Nigeria, remains an invaluable asset in our ongoing quest for national unity, good governance, and sustainable development.”

The governor further noted that Chief Anyaoku’s life exemplifies the values of integrity, humility, and service, virtues that have earned him admiration across continents and across political divides. He said the elder statesman’s career offers enduring lessons for young Nigerians on the power of education, discipline, and selfless service to humanity.

Governor Soludo highlighted the special pride Chief Anyaoku brings to Anambra State, describing him as one of the state’s most illustrious ambassadors whose achievements have elevated the image of the state on the global stage. He said Anambra people continue to draw inspiration from Anyaoku’s life story, which reflects the state’s long tradition of scholarship, leadership, and global engagement.

“As a son of Anambra, Chief Anyaoku has brought honour not just to his immediate community, but to the entire state and nation,” Soludo said. “He stands as a reminder of what is possible when excellence, character, and service converge.”

The governor stressed that celebrating Chief Anyaoku at 93 is not merely about marking the passage of years, but about honouring a legacy that continues to shape institutions, policies, and values across the world. He said Anyaoku’s contributions to international peace and cooperation remain relevant at a time when the world faces renewed challenges of conflict, inequality, and democratic backsliding.

According to Soludo, the elder statesman’s advocacy for dialogue, multilateralism, and respect for human dignity offers important lessons for today’s global leaders, particularly in an era marked by geopolitical tensions and social fragmentation.

“Chief Anyaoku’s life teaches us that diplomacy anchored on integrity and respect for humanity can still make a difference,” the governor noted. “His legacy is a beacon of hope in a world that urgently needs principled leadership.”
