Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of popular Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, describing the late entertainer as a talented young Nigerian whose passing has thrown the entertainment industry and millions of admirers into mourning.
In a condolence message released on Wednesday, Obi said he received the news of the actor’s death with sadness, noting that the loss was not only painful to Ekubo’s family and colleagues but also to Nigerians who appreciated his contributions to the creative industry.
“I received with sadness the heartbreaking news of the passing of young and talented Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, whose death has left the Nigerian entertainment industry and millions of admirers across the country mourning,” Obi stated.
The former Anambra State governor said the late actor represented the creativity, resilience and brilliance of young Nigerians who continue to project the country positively through arts and entertainment.
According to him, the contributions of Nigeria’s creative industry to nation-building and national development cannot be overlooked, adding that talents such as Alexx Ekubo played important roles in shaping the image of the country globally.
Obi extended his condolences to the actor’s family, friends, colleagues in Nollywood and fans across the world who had been touched by his performances and personality.
“On behalf of myself and everyone who values the immense contributions of our young creatives to nation-building, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in Nollywood, and the countless fans whose lives he touched through his craft,” he said.
The former presidential candidate reflected on the uncertainty of life, saying moments of loss often serve as reminders of the need for compassion, kindness and purposeful living.
“At moments like this, we are reminded once again of the fragility of life and the importance of living with kindness, compassion, and a sense of purpose,” Obi added.
He noted that although the actor’s life ended too soon, the impact of his work and the joy he brought to audiences through his movies and public engagements would continue to endure.
“Though his journey was cut short, the memories he created and the joy he brought to many through his performances will continue to live on,” he stated.
Obi also prayed for divine strength and comfort for the bereaved family as they mourn the painful loss of their son.
“I pray that God Almighty grants his family the strength and comfort to bear this painful loss, and may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
