Davido Appeals to President Donald Trump Over Osun Election Concerns

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the political situation in Osun State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

In a public statement, Davido expressed concern over reports of rising tension in the state as the election approaches. He warned that there were growing fears of possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process, stressing that such developments could undermine public confidence in the election.

Addressing President Trump directly, the singer said he was drawing international attention to the situation because the people of Osun State deserve to participate in the election without fear or coercion. According to him, every eligible voter has a constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully and safely.

Davido urged the United States government and the wider international community to monitor developments closely and encourage all relevant authorities in Nigeria to ensure that voters are adequately protected before, during and after the election. He said democratic processes can only retain legitimacy when citizens are able to express their political choices without intimidation or violence.

The singer emphasised that his appeal was motivated by a desire to see peace prevail in Osun State. He stated that residents do not want bloodshed or political violence and called on political actors, security agencies and electoral officials to conduct themselves responsibly.

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency and a free and fair election,” he said.

Davido also stressed the importance of respecting every vote cast during the election, noting that the integrity of the electoral process depends on the protection of voters and the accurate reflection of the will of the people.

He appealed to political parties and their supporters to avoid inflammatory actions and statements that could heighten tension, urging them instead to embrace peaceful competition and democratic values. According to him, elections should be decided through the ballot box and not through threats, coercion or violence.

The statement comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State as parties intensify campaigns ahead of the governorship poll. Security concerns have become a major topic of public discussion, with many residents and observers calling for measures to guarantee a peaceful election.

Davido’s intervention has added to the growing calls for vigilance and responsible conduct by all stakeholders. Political analysts say appeals from influential public figures can help draw attention to the need for peaceful participation and respect for democratic principles.

The singer concluded by reiterating his hope that the election would be conducted in an atmosphere of peace, transparency and fairness, allowing the people of Osun State to freely choose their leaders without fear or intimidation. He expressed confidence that with collective commitment from government authorities, political leaders, security agencies and citizens, the election can be peaceful and credible and serve as a positive example of democratic practice in Nigeria.
