Doris Ogala Remanded at Ikoyi Correctional Facility as AAC Alleges Political Persecution
Nollywood actress and African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate in Abia State, Doris Ogala, has reportedly been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility in Lagos pending the scheduling of her bail hearing.

The development was disclosed by comedian Deeone on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, amid an ongoing legal dispute between Ogala and her former partner, Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Ministry.

The case involves allegations of cyberbullying, harassment, extortion and the dissemination of false information. The allegations arise from a highly publicised dispute between the actress and the clergyman, which escalated following his announcement and subsequent marriage to another woman.

Ogala has denied wrongdoing and alleged that the legal proceedings are part of an attempt to undermine her political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.

AAC Condemns Reported Remand, Raises Political Interference Concerns

The African Action Congress has condemned Ogala’s reported remand, describing the development as a threat to democratic participation and freedom of expression.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rex I. Elanu, the party criticised the reported order by Justice A. Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The AAC alleged that the Cybercrime Act was increasingly being used by influential individuals and law enforcement authorities to intimidate critics, suppress dissent and criminalise free expression.

The party expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding Ogala’s case, particularly in view of her political ambition to challenge Abia State Governor Alex Otti in the 2027 election.

However, the party acknowledged that allegations of political interference would require proper investigation.

It called on the Nigeria Police Force to demonstrate its commitment to serving the public interest rather than protecting the interests of influential individuals or undisclosed political actors.

The AAC also urged Justice Aluko and other judicial officers to uphold impartiality, fairness and judicial integrity, insisting that the judiciary must protect citizens’ rights and ensure that legal processes are not used to persecute individuals.

“The judiciary must protect the oppressed, not become an instrument of their persecution,” the party said.

The party further declared that it would resist any attempt to use state institutions against its candidates and members, while pledging to pursue its objections through lawful and democratic channels.

It demanded strict adherence to due process, respect for Ogala’s fundamental rights, an impartial investigation into any credible allegations of political interference, and the repeal of the Cybercrime Act.

The AAC reiterated its opposition to what it described as the weaponisation of state institutions against political opponents, insisting that it would not be intimidated.

Dispute Began After Pastor Okafor’s Wedding

The dispute between Ogala and Okafor became widely publicised in December 2025, when the actress began releasing emotional videos on social media about their relationship.

Ogala alleged that the pastor had breached a promise of marriage following a relationship that reportedly began in 2017 and lasted several years.

The controversy intensified after Okafor married another woman, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025.

Following the wedding, Ogala publicly accused the clergyman of causing her emotional distress and exploiting her financially. Her legal team reportedly demanded up to ₦1 billion in aggravated damages.

The allegations and counterclaims subsequently developed into a protracted dispute involving police interventions and legal proceedings.

Previous Arrest and Police Complaints

On December 20, 2025, Ogala was reportedly arrested by security operatives in Abuja while participating in a livestreamed interview.

The actress later alleged that she was transferred secretly from Abuja to the Lagos Zone 2 Command. She also claimed that her phones were seized, that she was denied access to legal counsel and that efforts were made to conceal her location.

The incident attracted criticism from human rights advocates, including members of the Take It Back Movement and activist Omoyele Sowore, who reportedly intervened in the matter.

Reports subsequently emerged of a private meeting between Ogala and Okafor at Onikan, during which the pastor allegedly appealed for peace. Ogala was later released on health grounds, according to accounts of the incident.

However, the reported reconciliation did not bring the legal dispute to an end.

In April 2026, police officers from Lagos State reportedly visited Ogala’s residence again. In videos shared online, the actress complained that she had been taken to several police stations and courts over the dispute, raising concerns about her personal safety.

The latest reported remand marks another development in the continuing legal battle.

Ogala Alleges Plot Against Her Political Ambition

Ogala had raised an alarm before her reported remand, sharing a video from the courtroom and alleging that her detention was politically motivated and intended to frustrate her ambition to become Abia State governor in 2027.

Her party has echoed concerns about possible political interference, although it has acknowledged the need for an impartial investigation.

The legal dispute places Ogala’s personal controversy alongside wider questions about freedom of expression, the application of cybercrime legislation and the protection of political participation.

The allegations against Ogala remain matters for the courts to determine. Equally, claims that the proceedings are politically motivated require independent investigation and substantiation.

As the case continues, attention is expected to focus on the scheduling of her bail hearing, the judicial process and the circumstances surrounding the allegations against her.
