Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has alleged that his life is under threat, accusing the Federal Government of deliberately frustrating his activities and personally targeting him.
Obi made the allegation in a video that has circulated widely on social media, expressing concern over what he described as increasing hostility directed at him because of his political engagements and public interventions.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the pattern of actions against him suggests a coordinated attempt to intimidate and silence him.
“The way they’re going now, I might not even be alive soon, they’re going after my life,” Obi said.
He further alleged that every aspect of his public engagements is being deliberately obstructed by the authorities.
“Every single thing I do for a living, this government is deliberately frustrating it. The government is attacking me personally,” he stated.
Although Obi did not provide specific details of the alleged threats or identify individuals responsible, he maintained that the actions taken against him have become increasingly personal and systematic.
The former presidential candidate suggested that the alleged campaign against him extends beyond political opposition and has affected his routine activities and engagements across the country.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with opposition figures and political parties intensifying consultations and nationwide engagements.
Since the 2023 presidential election, Obi has remained one of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition voices, frequently commenting on governance, economic management, insecurity, education and other national issues. He has also continued to participate in public events, humanitarian activities and political consultations across different parts of the country.
The latest allegation is expected to generate reactions from political stakeholders, civil society organisations and supporters, particularly given growing debates over political tolerance, freedom of expression and the safety of opposition figures in Nigeria.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Presidency or the Federal Government regarding Obi’s allegations. Likewise, security agencies had not publicly commented on his claims of threats to his life.
The development is likely to intensify political discourse as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, with observers expected to monitor any official response to the allegations.
