Peter Obi Donates N10 Million to Rebuild Practising Primary School Agulu

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated N10 million towards the reconstruction of Practising Primary School, Agulu, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Obi made the donation during a visit to the historic school on Wednesday, May 21, where he reiterated the importance of investing in education and creating conducive learning environments for children across Nigeria.

The school, which was established in 1922 and has served as a major educational institution in Agulu for more than a century, suffered severe damage following a fire outbreak last year. The incident destroyed part of the school infrastructure, including a historic building that had educated generations of pupils from the community and beyond.

Speaking during the visit, Obi expressed sadness over the destruction caused by the fire, noting that the school occupies a special place in the history of education in his hometown.

According to him, the institution has played a vital role in shaping the lives of many successful individuals over the decades, making its restoration a matter of collective responsibility.

He recalled that during an earlier visit to the school after the fire incident, he had promised to support efforts aimed at rebuilding the damaged structures and improving learning conditions for the pupils.

Obi said he was pleased to return to fulfil part of that commitment with an initial donation of N10 million to help kick-start the reconstruction process.

He stressed that education remains one of the most critical investments any society can make, adding that rebuilding schools goes beyond replacing physical structures, as it also restores hope and confidence in the future of young people.

The former governor maintained that children deserve access to safe, modern, and supportive learning environments that can help them develop academically and morally.

He emphasized that improving educational infrastructure should remain a priority for governments, communities, and well-meaning individuals, especially at a time when many public schools across the country are facing infrastructural challenges.

Obi also used the occasion to interact with the pupils, encouraging them to remain focused on their studies and take their education seriously despite prevailing challenges.

He told the students that the future they desire would largely depend on the level of discipline, hard work, and dedication they demonstrate today.

According to him, education remains one of the most reliable pathways to personal growth, national development, and social transformation.

The visit attracted members of the community, school authorities, teachers, and residents who commended Obi for the donation and his continued interest in the development of education.

Many residents described the intervention as timely and impactful, noting that the reconstruction of the damaged structures would help restore normal academic activities and improve the morale of both teachers and pupils.

Community leaders also praised the former presidential candidate for consistently supporting educational causes and humanitarian initiatives across the country.

Over the years, Obi has gained public attention for his donations and interventions in schools, hospitals, and other public institutions, particularly in areas related to education, healthcare, and youth development.

Observers say his latest intervention in Agulu reflects his longstanding advocacy for increased investment in human capital development.

The former governor has repeatedly argued that Nigeria’s development can only be achieved through deliberate investment in education, health, and poverty reduction.

He has also continued to urge political leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare and future of young Nigerians by improving public institutions and ensuring that children have access to quality education.

Reaffirming his optimism for the country, Obi concluded his remarks with his popular message of hope, declaring that “A New Nigeria is Possible.”

The donation is expected to support the early phase of reconstruction efforts at the school, while community stakeholders continue to mobilize additional support for the complete restoration of the affected facilities.
