Edo State lawmaker, Honourable Natasha Osawaru, has expressed her presidential ambition, declaring that she intends to become President of Nigeria while her 92-year-old grandfather, businessman and philanthropist, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, is still alive.
Osawaru made the declaration while celebrating Igbinedion’s 92nd birthday, where she spoke warmly about her relationship with the business mogul and expressed deep appreciation for his influence in her life.
The lawmaker described her grandfather as a special figure whose presence continued to mean a great deal to her, saying she was grateful for every opportunity to spend time with him.
Speaking during the birthday celebration, Osawaru praised Igbinedion for remaining strong and vibrant at 92, describing him as someone who had become “sweeter and better” with age.
She said being around her grandfather sometimes overwhelmed her emotionally because of the depth of her love and admiration for him.
“It is amazing to be around you. Sometimes I feel like crying because of how much you mean to me,” she said.
Osawaru then made a personal promise to her grandfather, announcing her determination to one day occupy Nigeria’s highest political office.
“I promise you that I will be the president of this country before you die, amen in Jesus’ name. And I’ll make you very, very proud. And I promise to do better, better, better every day,” she declared.
Her statement immediately drew attention because of the significance of the office she expressed interest in and the emotional setting in which the declaration was made.
The Edo lawmaker also used the occasion to pray for her grandfather’s continued good health and longevity. She expressed confidence that Igbinedion would live for many more years and witness several additional birthday celebrations.
According to Osawaru, the family would not stop at celebrating his 92nd birthday but would continue to celebrate his 94th, 95th, 96th, 97th, 98th, 99th and 100th birthdays.
She extended the prayer even further, asking God to grant him a lifespan of up to 150 years.
“We will celebrate your 94th, 95th, 96th, 97th, 98th, 99th and 100th birthdays, up to 150 in the name of Jesus,” she said.
The lawmaker also prayed for divine protection over her grandfather, describing him as someone whose presence was indispensable to her.
“I cannot live without you. May God bless you, my grandfather. I love you so much,” she added.
Osawaru’s remarks reflected both a personal tribute to an influential family figure and an indication of her political aspirations.
Her declaration that she intends to become Nigeria’s president has generated interest, particularly because she is already involved in state-level politics as an elected lawmaker in Edo State.
Although the birthday gathering was primarily a family celebration, her statement introduced a political dimension to the occasion, with the lawmaker linking her future ambition to a desire to make her grandfather proud.
