The Lagos State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo held its General Meeting on Saturday at Gbajabiamila Hall, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Lagos State, bringing together community leaders, dignitaries, special delegates and political stakeholders.
The meeting, presided over by the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, High Chief Leo Okafor (Oba Ojoto), addressed the affairs of the organisation, including the recent suspension of five members: Chief Everest Ozonweke, Prince Ubochi C. Ubochi, Mr. Robert Obasi, Mrs. Violet Uche Obiora, Apostle Patrick Nwanze and Chief Linus Igbudu.
Speaking with the press, Barrister Agubuzo, the organisation’s Legal Adviser, said the suspensions were justified. She alleged that the affected individuals had acted contrary to Ohanaeze’s regulations and code of conduct, adding that the leadership’s decision was aimed at strengthening discipline, unity and inclusion within the organisation.
The gathering also featured special delegates and political aspirants seeking the support of the Igbo community ahead of the 2027 elections.
One of the notable visitor, former governor aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who was accompanied by ADC candidates contesting for seats in the House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly.
Rhodes-Vivour came to appreciate Ohanaeze for standing by him and his family during the burial of his late mother. As a gesture of appreciation, he presented ₦1 million towards the purchase of a cow in honour of his late mother.
Speaking with the press, Rhodes-Vivour said Lagos must remain a place where everyone can thrive, regardless of background. He also highlighted challenges such as poor roads, refuse and flooding, which he said continue to affect residents and businesses.
He urged young people to take the 2027 elections seriously, noting that they have the greatest stake in the future and will ultimately bear the consequences of decisions made today.
Another notable visitor was Hon. Olueaseyi Ayopo Sowunmi representating Ojo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The meeting ended with renewed emphasis on unity, discipline and inclusion within the Ohanaeze Ndigbo community in Lagos.
