Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman identified as Aisha Isah after allegedly discovering 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition in her possession along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who said the suspect was intercepted by NDLEA operatives during a patrol along the highway.
According to the statement, Isah was arrested at a toll gate along the expressway while the operatives were conducting their routine security operation.
However, the agency did not disclose where the suspect was travelling from, her intended destination or the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the ammunition.
It also did not provide further details about the suspect’s intended use of the ammunition or whether investigations had established any connection to criminal activities.
The arrest was among several operations conducted by NDLEA operatives across the country, resulting in the seizure of illicit substances and the apprehension of suspected drug traffickers.
The agency has continued to intensify surveillance, patrols and enforcement operations along major highways and other strategic locations as part of efforts to combat drug trafficking and other related criminal activities.
