Two hotel employees, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, have also reportedly been arrested over allegations that they removed the deceased’s body from the premises and dumped it beneath Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway instead of notifying the police.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, Mohammed and the deceased had checked into the guest house to spend time together when the man reportedly collapsed shortly after returning from the restroom.
The report alleged that Mohammed left the room with the man’s mobile phone following the incident.
Hotel staff reportedly became suspicious when the occupants failed to leave at the scheduled checkout time. They subsequently forced the door open and discovered the man lying lifeless on the floor.
Rather than immediately reporting the discovery to the police, the two employees allegedly removed the body from the hotel and abandoned it beneath Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway.
The incident came to light after the deceased’s family reportedly raised an alarm over his disappearance, prompting an investigation.
Detectives were said to have used technical investigations to trace the man’s last phone communication to Mohammed, who was subsequently located and arrested.
Woman Gives Account of Incident
Speaking to journalists in a video obtained by SaharaReporters, Mohammed confirmed that the man had slumped and died while they were together in the hotel.
“I went with a man in the hotel. The man slumped and died,” she said.
Explaining what happened, she stated: “He went to the bedroom to ease himself (urinate). Coming back, he slumped and died.”
When asked whether the man had taken any drugs before the incident, Mohammed initially said he had not taken drugs but acknowledged that he had been experiencing health challenges.
She later confirmed that he was taking medication and said he had previously received treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja.
Asked why she left the room after the man collapsed, Mohammed said she went outside with his phone in an attempt to contact someone who could be informed about what had happened.
“I went outside to take his phone and if I can get any of his contacts to call them that something happened like this,” she explained.
She added that she was unable to access the man’s contacts on the device.
Police Response Awaited
The circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, including the precise nature of his reported health condition and the medical cause of death.
It was also not immediately clear whether the deceased received any medical assistance before he died or how long his body remained inside the hotel room before it was discovered.
SaharaReporters reported that efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, for comments and an update were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
The police had not provided an official account of the incident in the report available.
The allegations against Mohammed and the two hotel employees have yet to be established in court. Further details are expected as investigations continue into the man’s death and the reported disposal of his body.
