AAC Asks Tinubu to Host 2027 Campaign Council Inauguration at Aso Rock, Requests Food for 5,000 Guests
The African Action Congress (AAC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the event scheduled for November 11, 2026.

The requests were contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena.

In the letter, the AAC said the proposed inauguration was part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, adding that granting the request would reflect the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.

The party also referred to arrangements it claimed had been extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, arguing that comparable support should be available to other political parties.

“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for 5,000 participants from home and abroad at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement,” the letter stated.

The AAC maintained that approving its request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to political fairness and ensure that public institutions were accessible to parties across the political spectrum.

“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination,” the party said.

It further asked the President to provide details of the procedures and conditions that would apply to the proposed use of the Presidential Villa and the requested logistical assistance.

“We look forward to your favourable consideration of this request and would appreciate information on the applicable procedures and conditions for its approval,” the letter added.

The request comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with parties expected to organise campaign structures, mobilise supporters and develop strategies ahead of the polls.

The AAC, which has positioned itself as an alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties, is seeking to hold its campaign council inauguration at the seat of the Federal Government, with participants expected to travel from within Nigeria and abroad.

However, the party’s request raises questions about the criteria for granting political organisations access to facilities within the Presidential Villa and whether public resources should be used to support partisan political events.

The letter did not establish whether the Presidency had approved the request or whether similar arrangements had formally been made available to other opposition parties.

No response from the Presidency was included in the report as of the time of filing.

The proposed inauguration is scheduled for November 11, 2026, subject to the outcome of the party’s request and any conditions imposed by the relevant authorities.
