Tinubu Constitutes APC Presidential Campaign Council for 2027 Election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has constituted the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election, bringing together senior party leaders, serving government officials and experienced political strategists to coordinate the party’s campaign.

Former Zamfara State Governor and serving senator, Abdulaziz Yari, has been appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, will serve as Secretary.

The appointments were contained in a statement issued by the Presidency on Saturday morning and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Under the structure announced by the Presidency, President Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will occupy the position of Vice-Chairman I. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, was named Vice-Chairman II.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, will serve as Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman was appointed Assistant Secretary.

The campaign council will also have a group of senior political figures serving as advisers to the chairman. They include former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.

The President has also assigned key responsibilities to senior political officeholders across the country’s geopolitical zones.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General responsible for campaign operations in the South and North.

They will work alongside Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Jibril Barau as part of the leadership structure designed to coordinate the party’s campaign across the country.

Former Edo State Governor and senator, Adams Oshiomhole, was appointed Deputy Director-General for Mobilisation, placing him in charge of efforts to galvanise party members and supporters ahead of the election.

The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will serve as Deputy Director-General for Administration.

James Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, has also returned to the campaign structure. He was appointed Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.

Faleke will work with zonal directors assigned to the six geopolitical zones. They are Senator Olushola Adeyeye for the South-West, Dr Ngozi Olejeme for the South-South, Senator Uche Ekwunife for the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe for the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso for the North-Central and Senator Sani Danladi for the North-East.

Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori were appointed secretaries within the election planning directorate.

The legal arm of the campaign will be headed by senior lawyer Muiz Banire, SAN, who was named Director of the Legal Directorate. He will be assisted by Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala as deputy directors.

The campaign council also unveiled a broad media and strategic communication structure as the APC prepares to communicate its message to voters during the election season.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, will serve as Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication. He will work alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka were appointed Coordinating Deputy Directors within the media and strategic communication directorate.

Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, Temitope Ajayi, Aderonke Arabirin and Frederick Nwabufo were named Coordinating Secretaries.

Segun Dada, who occupied the same position during the APC’s 2022 campaign structure, will return as Director of New Media, with Solomon Arowolo serving as Secretary.

The campaign council also named five spokespersons who will be responsible for articulating the party’s campaign message and responding to political developments during the election period.

Dele Alake will lead the spokespersons, working alongside Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.

The formation of the campaign council represents a significant step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election. By bringing together party leaders, political officeholders, experienced campaign officials and communication professionals, the ruling party is seeking to establish a coordinated national structure well ahead of the election.

In his message to members of the council, President Tinubu charged them to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the 2027 election.

He also directed leaders of the various directorates to reach out to other party members who were not specifically listed in the campaign structure, encouraging them to contribute to the party’s campaign effort.

According to the President, the APC will enter the campaign season with the achievements of his administration as a major component of its message to Nigerians.

Tinubu argued that his administration had fulfilled its campaign promises and placed Nigeria on a path toward economic recovery and growth.

“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” the President said.

He maintained that Nigeria had moved beyond a difficult period and was approaching a stage where citizens would begin to experience the benefits of economic reforms.

“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet, let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation,” Tinubu said.

He further urged the campaign council to work towards defeating opposition forces that, in his view, sought to reverse the progress recorded by his administration.

The President’s directive signals the beginning of a more structured political mobilisation by the APC ahead of the 2027 election.

With the campaign council now constituted, attention is expected to shift towards grassroots mobilisation, voter engagement, communication strategy, election planning and the consolidation of support across the six geopolitical zones.

The APC’s campaign structure also places significant emphasis on media and digital communication, reflecting the increasingly important role of traditional and social media in shaping political narratives and influencing voters.

The council’s election planning and monitoring directorate is expected to focus on coordinating the party’s activities across the country, while the mobilisation team will be responsible for strengthening the APC’s grassroots structures and building support among party members and prospective voters.

The 2027 election is expected to be highly competitive, with the APC seeking to retain the presidency and strengthen its position nationally.

The newly constituted campaign council will therefore have the task of translating the administration’s policy achievements and political message into a nationwide electoral campaign capable of securing support across Nigeria’s diverse political landscape.
