The administration of Donald Trump has released a fresh batch of previously classified documents, photographs, videos, and government records relating to Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), more popularly known as UFOs, in what officials described as one of the most extensive transparency efforts ever undertaken by the United States government on the issue.
The disclosure, announced on Friday, forms part of a newly established federal initiative known as the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters programme, abbreviated as PURSUE.
According to a statement issued by the White House to Fox News, the programme is designed to centralize and declassify decades of government-held information relating to unexplained aerial encounters, mysterious objects, and potential extraterrestrial phenomena.
The White House said the newly released materials would now be accessible to the public without any form of security clearance, marking a dramatic shift from decades of secrecy surrounding the issue.
“The latest UAP videos, photos, and original source documents from across the entire United States government are all in one place — no clearance required,” the White House stated.
Officials said the release reflects the Trump administration’s commitment to transparency and public access to information that had historically been hidden behind layers of military and intelligence classifications.
“While past administrations sought to discredit or dissuade the American people, President Trump is focused on providing maximum transparency to the public, who can ultimately make up their own minds about the information contained in these files,” the statement added.
The latest disclosure is reportedly the first phase of what government officials described as a continuing declassification effort expected to involve several intelligence agencies and military departments.
Among the most talked-about materials released are photographs allegedly taken during NASA’s Apollo 12 Moon Landing and Apollo 17 Moon Landing missions.
One of the photographs, reportedly captured from the lunar surface, appears to show three unidentified objects suspended in the sky above the moon.
The image has already generated widespread debate online, with UFO enthusiasts, researchers, and skeptics offering competing interpretations of what the objects may represent.
In addition to the images, the government also released transcripts of communications between astronauts aboard Apollo 17 and mission control personnel during the lunar mission.
According to the transcripts, astronauts and operators discussed observing unusual objects moving around the spacecraft during maneuvering operations.
“Now we’ve got a few very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver,” one operator reportedly stated during the mission communication.
Another operator later described the objects as “very jagged, angular fragments that are tumbling.”
Officials did not provide any definitive explanation for the observations contained in the transcripts.
The latest disclosure also includes files from the Federal Bureau of Investigation containing photographs allegedly taken near American aircraft on New Year’s Eve in 1999.
The photographs reportedly show unexplained aerial objects moving near military or civilian aviation assets.
Although intelligence officials declined to publicly confirm the origin or nature of the objects, they stated that the materials were being released so the public could independently review the information.
The release follows renewed public interest in extraterrestrial life and UAPs after comments made earlier this year by former President Barack Obama during a podcast appearance.
During the interview, Obama reportedly suggested that extraterrestrial phenomena may exist, sparking intense media debate and renewed pressure on government agencies to release classified information relating to UFO investigations.
Reacting to Obama’s remarks at the time, Trump accused the former president of publicly discussing classified information.
“He gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that,” Trump told reporters in February.
“I don’t know if they’re real or not. I can tell you, he gave classified information.”
A few days after the controversy, Trump announced through his Truth Social platform that his administration would begin formally declassifying records relating to alien life, UFO sightings, and unidentified aerial phenomena.
“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs),” Trump wrote.
The latest release has been welcomed by several senior officials within the administration, many of whom described the move as a historic turning point in public access to government information on unexplained aerial encounters.
Pete Hegseth described the disclosure as a significant moment for transparency and public trust.
“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” Hegseth said.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard also confirmed that multiple intelligence agencies are now participating in a broader coordinated declassification effort.
“Today’s release is the first in what will be an ongoing joint declassification and release effort,” Gabbard stated.
Meanwhile, Kash Patel described the publication of the files as a “landmark release of UAP records,” adding that Americans now have “unfettered access” to information that had remained hidden for decades.
The head of NASA, Jared Isaacman, said the space agency would continue examining unexplained phenomena using scientific analysis and evidence-based research.
“At NASA, our job is to bring the brightest minds and most advanced scientific instruments to bear, follow the data, and share what we learn,” Isaacman said.
“We will remain candid about what we know to be true, what we have yet to understand, and all that remains to be discovered.”
The disclosure has already generated intense reactions across social media, with many Americans demanding further releases and clearer explanations from the government regarding decades of alleged UFO sightings and classified military encounters.
Researchers and analysts believe the release could further intensify global interest in extraterrestrial life and government knowledge surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena.
While officials stopped short of confirming the existence of alien life, they emphasized that the administration’s objective was to promote openness and allow the public to independently evaluate the evidence contained in the newly released materials.
The White House indicated that additional files, videos, photographs, and intelligence records would be released in phases over the coming months as the PURSUE programme expands.
