Sanwo-Olu Hosts New Nigerian Law School DG, Hails Milestone for Legal Education

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday received the newly appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Mrs. Olugbemisola Odusote, at the Lagos House, Marina.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the visit as both symbolic and significant, noting that Mrs. Odusote’s appointment marks a historic milestone in the country’s legal education sector. She is the first woman to be appointed as Director-General of the Nigerian Law School since its establishment, a development the governor said reflects growing efforts to expand leadership opportunities and promote inclusiveness within national institutions.

The governor congratulated Mrs. Odusote on her well-deserved appointment, commending her professional pedigree and experience in legal education. He expressed confidence in her capacity to provide visionary leadership that would further strengthen the Nigerian Law School and uphold its longstanding reputation for excellence in the training of legal practitioners.

Sanwo-Olu also used the occasion to reaffirm Lagos State’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance institutional development and human capital growth. According to him, progress in critical sectors such as legal education is essential to the overall stability of governance and the rule of law in the country.

“Lagos will continue to support progress wherever it shows up, especially when it strengthens our institutions and inspires the next generation,” the governor said.

Mrs. Odusote, who assumed office recently, thanked the governor for the warm reception and expressed appreciation for the support of the Lagos State Government. She reiterated her commitment to sustaining reforms that would enhance the quality of legal training and align the Nigerian Law School with global best practices.

The meeting underscored the shared resolve of both the Lagos State Government and the leadership of the Nigerian Law School to promote excellence, professionalism and innovation in legal education, as well as to encourage greater participation of women in leadership roles across the public sector.
