Okorocha was subsequently released on bail after about an hour of interrogation, as investigations into the allegations continued.
The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and release to Channels Television, adding that the former governor had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.
According to the police spokesperson, investigators are continuing to examine the allegations against Okorocha, with further interrogation expected as part of efforts to establish the facts of the case.
The arrest reportedly followed the former governor’s failure to honour previous invitations from the police in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Okorocha was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2. However, the appointment was reportedly rescheduled to September 8 following a request by his lawyers.
He was said to have failed to honour the rescheduled invitation, a development that reportedly preceded his arrest on Monday night.
The police have not, in the information provided, disclosed further details about the alleged offences or the specific circumstances surrounding the accusations of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha’s release on bail does not amount to a determination of the allegations against him. The investigation remains ongoing, and the former governor is expected to return to the police headquarters as directed.
The development marks another stage in the police investigation involving the former Imo State governor, who served two terms in office from 2011 to 2019 before representing Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Further details are expected as investigators continue their inquiries and the police determine the appropriate next steps in the case.
