OmoBarca congratulates Ajeromi Ifelodun constituents on Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, hails Peter Obi for visit to Trade Fair Complex

Lagos – October 1, 2025

As Nigeria marked her 65th Independence Anniversary, philanthropist and House of Representatives hopeful for Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, extended his warm congratulations to his constituents and Nigerians across the federation.

In a heartfelt statement, OmoBarca described the day as not only one of celebration but also of sober reflection, renewed hope, and commitment to the values of unity, peace, and progress envisioned by Nigeria’s founding fathers at independence in 1960. He commended the resilience and indomitable spirit of Nigerians who, despite decades of social, political, and economic challenges, have continued to demonstrate courage, faith, and perseverance in the journey towards national development.

Independence Anniversary as a Time of Reflection

Speaking through his media office, OmoBarca emphasized that Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary should serve as an opportunity for Nigerians to look inward, draw strength from the struggles of the past, and recommit themselves to building a better future for coming generations.

“On this occasion of our 65th Independence Anniversary, I felicitate with my constituents in Ajeromi Ifelodun and all Nigerians. Our journey as a nation has not been without trials and challenges. Yet, the courage, faith, and perseverance of our people remain the bedrock upon which this country continues to stand. We must keep faith in Nigeria and work together towards building the country of our dreams,” he stated.

He noted that while the country has faced turbulent times—including economic downturns, insecurity, political instability, and social unrest—the resilience of Nigerians remains unmatched, making it possible for the nation to weather the storm and press forward.

OmoBarca highlighted that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and in the collective will of its citizens to live together in unity despite differences of ethnicity, language, and religion. He urged leaders at all levels of government to be deliberate in promoting national integration, social justice, and equitable development.

Hailing Peter Obi’s Visit to Trade Fair Complex

In addition to celebrating the independence milestone, OmoBarca used the opportunity to commend Mr. Peter Obi, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, for his recent sympathetic visit to the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos, where business owners were affected by a wave of demolitions.

Describing the visit as timely and empathetic, OmoBarca remarked that Obi’s action demonstrated leadership, solidarity, and compassion—qualities Nigeria desperately needs in this period of economic difficulty.

“Mr. Peter Obi’s visit to the Trade Fair Complex reflects genuine concern for the plight of ordinary Nigerians. At a time when many families and businesses are grappling with hardship, leaders must stand in solidarity with the people. His gesture is both symbolic and practical, and it is worthy of emulation by other political leaders,” OmoBarca said.

He further emphasized that true leadership is not about occupying political office alone, but about showing care, listening to the people, and acting in their best interest. For him, Obi’s gesture served as an example of how political leaders can bridge the gap between governance and grassroots realities.

Balancing Development with Human Dignity

OmoBarca also called on the relevant government authorities to carefully balance urban development initiatives with the protection of citizens’ livelihoods. He stressed that while infrastructure renewal, urban renewal projects, and demolition exercises may sometimes be necessary, they must be carried out with empathy, fairness, and adequate compensation mechanisms.

He warned against policies that sacrifice the wellbeing of vulnerable Nigerians in the name of modernization, noting that development should ultimately improve human dignity, economic growth, and social justice.

“Policies should be people-centered. Development cannot be about bricks and mortar alone; it must also be about human lives, dignity, and welfare. Authorities must ensure that in implementing reforms, the livelihoods of citizens are protected and alternatives are provided for those affected,” OmoBarca emphasized.

Reassuring Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituents

Reiterating his unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents in Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency, OmoBarca reassured the people of his determination to continue championing policies and initiatives that will uplift their lives and promote inclusive development.

He pledged to use his platform, influence, and political aspirations to:

  • Advocate for better access to healthcare and education for children and families in Ajeromi.

  • Support initiatives that will empower youths and women through vocational training, entrepreneurship, and access to credit.

  • Work towards policies that will attract infrastructural development to the constituency, especially in the areas of road networks, drainage, and public amenities.

  • Ensure that the voices of ordinary people in Ajegunle and surrounding communities are represented in national decision-making.

“Ajeromi Ifelodun is blessed with hardworking, resilient, and talented people who deserve better opportunities. My commitment is to continue fighting for the welfare of my people and ensuring that they benefit from the dividends of democracy,” OmoBarca affirmed.

Nigeria at 65: The Road Ahead

OmoBarca’s Independence Day message also touched on the broader Nigerian context. He stressed that while the nation has made notable progress in areas such as education, democracy, and infrastructure since 1960, much remains to be done to fulfill the dream of the founding fathers.

He called for:

  1. Renewed Patriotism – urging Nigerians to put the nation first and shun ethnic and religious sentiments that threaten unity.

  2. Economic Diversification – stressing the need to reduce dependence on oil and embrace agriculture, manufacturing, and the digital economy.

  3. Youth Empowerment – advocating for policies that prioritize education, innovation, and entrepreneurship among young people.

  4. Accountability and Transparency – insisting that leaders must be held accountable for resources entrusted to them.

  5. Security Reform – highlighting the importance of securing lives and property as a foundation for progress.

“We have the resources, the people, and the potential. What we need is the political will, the right policies, and the collective resolve to build a stronger Nigeria. Together, we can,” OmoBarca concluded.
