The party said it had not only been subjected to violent attacks allegedly involving agents of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but had also become a target of discrimination by some hotels and operators within Abuja’s hospitality industry.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., the NDC accused some hotels of withdrawing previously agreed arrangements for its meetings and political activities at the last minute, allegedly following pressure from undisclosed quarters.
The party specifically cited Rockview Hotel, Abuja, which it accused of cancelling agreements to provide facilities for its activities on two separate occasions.
According to the NDC, the first incident occurred in June 2026 when the hotel allegedly withdrew its approval for the party to hold its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, despite earlier negotiations.
The party said the hotel recently declined another request to use its facilities for a meeting, reportedly informing its representatives that the decision was based on an instruction from above.
The NDC also accused BON Hotel, Wuse, Abuja, of refusing to make its facilities available for a party meeting despite the organisation having fulfilled all the conditions stipulated by the hotel.
The party further alleged that its recent unveiling of the National Campaign Council (NCC) was nearly frustrated by another last-minute withdrawal by a hospitality service provider.
According to the statement, after receiving payment for the use of its facility, the hotel contacted the party and requested a refund, indicating that it was no longer willing to host the event.
The NDC expressed suspicion that the withdrawal might have resulted from alleged threats or instructions from influential quarters.
However, the party said it refused to accept the cancellation and insisted on using the facility for which it had already paid, eventually compelling the hotel to honour the arrangement.
Describing the alleged incidents as unacceptable in a democratic society, the NDC maintained that political parties must be allowed to conduct their lawful activities without intimidation, discrimination or unnecessary restrictions.
“This is not democracy. The APC should allow all parties to campaign without let or hindrance and give Nigerians the opportunity to make their choice on who governs them,” the statement declared.
The party called on well-meaning Nigerians, democracy advocates and civil society organisations to condemn what it described as anti-democratic conduct by Rockview Hotel and BON Hotel.
It urged the hospitality industry to remain neutral and provide services to all individuals and organisations without discrimination based on political affiliation.
The NDC also called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to protect the rights of opposition parties to organise meetings, hold conferences, inaugurate campaign structures and engage Nigerians freely.
Reaffirming its commitment to the democratic process, the party said it remained determined to pursue its political objectives despite the challenges it claimed to be facing.
“Nigerians deserve better, and NDC is prepared to serve with passion and patriotism.
“A New Nigeria is possible! We can do it,” the statement concluded.
