Justice Crack Laments Condition of Vehicle After Retrieval From Nigerian Army Custody

Social critic and activist Justice Crack has expressed deep disappointment over the condition of his vehicle after it was returned to him by the Nigerian Army, months after it was confiscated following his arrest.

The activist, who was detained by military authorities in April after releasing a video that criticised the quality of food allegedly provided to troops fighting insurgency, said the experience left him traumatised and financially burdened.

Justice Crack was arrested on April 28, 2026, after publishing a video in which he raised concerns about the welfare of Nigerian soldiers. Following his arrest, he was held in military custody before eventually securing bail and regaining his freedom in May.

However, according to him, the ordeal did not end with his release.

Speaking through a post on his X account after recovering his vehicle, the social commentator revealed that he was devastated to discover that the car had suffered significant damage while in military custody.

He explained that the vehicle held special importance because it had only recently been acquired through a loan arrangement.

According to him, he purchased the car on April 23, 2026, after trading in his previous vehicle, which had become unreliable and expensive to maintain. Despite the purchase, he still had an outstanding loan balance of ₦4.5 million to settle.

Justice Crack recounted the circumstances surrounding his arrest, alleging that he was taken away by individuals he initially believed were officials of the Department of State Services before discovering they were acting on behalf of the Nigerian Army.

He said the three days he spent in detention remain among the most traumatic experiences of his life.

The activist alleged that throughout his detention he was kept handcuffed and blindfolded, subjected to harsh conditions and denied basic necessities.

He claimed that during the daytime he was left for extended periods under intense heat without access to drinking water despite repeated pleas.

According to him, the nights were equally difficult, as he was allegedly confined in an extremely cold room where his cries for assistance went unanswered.

Justice Crack further alleged that he was physically assaulted during his detention, stating that he received random slaps from unidentified individuals while in custody.

The experience, he said, has continued to affect him long after his release.

He disclosed that he still struggles with the emotional and psychological impact of the incident, describing recurring nightmares and difficulty sleeping.

According to him, memories of those days continue to resurface unexpectedly, making it difficult for him to fully recover from the experience.

The activist said the condition of his vehicle upon its return added another layer of pain to an already difficult situation.

Having acquired the car only days before his arrest, he expected it to remain in good condition. Instead, he said he was confronted with damage that has left him questioning why he was subjected to such treatment.

Reflecting on the events, Justice Crack maintained that he had committed no crime other than speaking out on behalf of military personnel whom he believed deserved better welfare and living conditions.

He argued that his criticism was intended to draw attention to the challenges faced by soldiers serving on the frontlines rather than undermine the military institution.

“My only offence was speaking up and asking that my brothers and sisters serving in the military should be properly fed and cared for,” he stated.

The activist described the entire episode as a painful reminder of the challenges faced by citizens who express dissenting views in Nigeria.

He said the experience had profoundly altered his perception of justice and accountability, adding that he never imagined he would personally endure such treatment.

Despite the hardship, financial losses and emotional trauma he says he has suffered, Justice Crack insisted that he remains committed to speaking out on issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

He ended his statement on a note of resilience, declaring that although the experience had tested him severely, it had not broken his spirit.

“Today, I can truly say that Nigeria happened to me,” he wrote.

“Yet, despite everything, one thing remains certain: Justice can never be cracked.”

His comments have since generated reactions on social media, with supporters expressing sympathy over his ordeal and renewing calls for greater respect for human rights, freedom of expression and accountability by state institutions.

The Nigerian Army has not publicly responded to the latest allegations regarding the condition of the vehicle or the claims made by the activist following its return.
