Ike Turner Jr., Son of Tina Turner and Ike Turner, Dies at 67

In a sad turn for music fans and the Turner family alike, Ike Turner Jr., son of legendary musicians Tina Turner and Ike Turner, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at a hospital in Los Angeles. He was 67.

His passing occurred just one day after his birthday, according to family sources. The cause of death was confirmed as kidney failure, following prolonged health challenges that included severe heart issues and a stroke in September.

Ike Turner Jr. was born in 1958 to Ike Turner Sr. and Lorraine Taylor. When Tina Turner married Ike Sr. in 1962, she adopted Ike Jr. (and his brother Michael), raising them as her own children.

Throughout his life, Ike Jr. maintained a complicated and often distant relationship with his mother, Tina, especially in her later years.

He had siblings: Ronnie Turner, his (and Tina’s) biological son, who died in December 2022 from complications of colon cancer at the age of 62; and Craig Raymond Turner, Tina’s firstborn, who died by suicide in 2018.

At the time of Ike Jr.’s death, his surviving sibling is Michael Turner, the other adopted son.

Ike Turner Jr. followed in his parents’ footsteps into the music industry, though his path was quieter and more behind the scenes. He worked as a sound engineer and later became a producer and musician.

One of his most notable achievements was his Grammy Award in 2007, which he won as producer of his father’s blues album Risin’ With the Blues, which took the prize for Best Traditional Blues Album.

He also performed with a tribute ensemble called The Love Thang Band, collaborating with singer Sweet Randi Love.

Earlier in life, Ike Jr. served briefly as sound engineer for Tina Turner. However, over time, their working relationship cooled. In interviews, he claimed that during the split between Tina and Ike Sr., his father opposed his professional involvement with his mother.

Those close to Ike Jr. say his health had been deteriorating for years. He had long suffered from serious heart conditions, and had recently endured a stroke. The stroke, which occurred in September, further weakened him.

His death from kidney failure represents the culmination of multiple health crises.

Family member Jacqueline Bullock confirmed the news and described Ike Jr. as more than a cousin — “rather a brother” — reflecting the close ties among those who grew up in the Turner household.

The Turner family’s public history includes periods of tension and estrangement, especially between Ike Jr. and his mother Tina. In interviews, Ike Jr. admitted he had not spoken with his mother for many years, citing distance and differing paths.

Tina Turner, in her memoir and in interviews, acknowledged that after her divorce from Ike Sr., she became less engaged with her sons, except Craig.

In addition to familial distance, Ike Jr. faced legal and personal struggles. In mid-2023, shortly before Tina’s death, he was arrested in Texas and charged with crack cocaine possession and tampering with evidence.

At the time of Tina’s death in May 2023, Ike Jr. was reportedly in custody.

With the death of Ike Turner Jr., the Turner family’s lineage in the music world sees one more chapter close. His contributions — though less public than those of his parents — added depth to the Turner legacy.

Tina Turner, affectionately known as the “Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll,” passed away in 2023 at age 83. Ike Sr. died in 2007. With Ike Jr.’s passing, only Michael Turner remains among Tina’s children.

In her later years, Tina often reflected on the challenges of motherhood and legacy. She spoke of her sons with complicated emotions — love, regret, pride, and loss all interwoven. Ike Jr.’s death will likely prompt renewed reflection on her life as both a music icon and a mother whose personal life was often overshadowed by her public persona.

Fans, musicians, and industry watchers are expected to pay tribute in coming days. Many will recall Ike Jr. through the music he engineered, the albums he helped bring to life, and the quiet professionalism that underpinned his career.

As obituaries and memorials roll in, one consistent note is the bittersweet nature of his passing: celebrated for his musical contribution, mourned for his struggles, and remembered as part of a family whose story is as grand as their music.

May Ike Turner Jr. rest in peace.
