Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that any foreign state or entity found to have been involved in the recent in-flight attack on a flydubai aircraft would face what he described as a “very heavy price.”
Netanyahu issued the warning while addressing the Israeli public following the emergency landing of a Tel Aviv-bound flydubai Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Saudi Arabia. The incident occurred after an alleged attempt by the aircraft’s Omani co-pilot to attack the captain and seize control of the flight.
According to Netanyahu, investigators were increasingly convinced that the attacker had undergone Islamist radicalisation and had allegedly intended to crash the aircraft with its passengers on board.
“As time passes, the picture is becoming clearer: The attacker underwent Islamist radicalisation. He came to crash the plane with all passengers on board. We are investigating whether he was sent, and whoever sent him will pay a very heavy price,” Netanyahu said.
The Israeli Prime Minister, however, did not identify any specific country or organisation as being responsible for directing or supporting the alleged attack. His remarks came as investigators from several countries continued examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The co-pilot involved in the confrontation was identified as an Omani national. The incident has nevertheless generated speculation among regional and international political figures about whether the attack could have been connected to a broader extremist or state-sponsored network.
Among those who have raised the possibility of Iranian involvement is United States President Donald Trump. Trump said he was “hearing” that Iran could potentially have been connected to the incident and warned that Tehran would face severe consequences if its involvement were established.
The claims about possible Iranian involvement remain unconfirmed in the information available from the incident. Neither Netanyahu nor Trump provided publicly disclosed evidence establishing that the Iranian government directed or sponsored the alleged attack.
The dramatic confrontation reportedly began in mid-air when the Omani co-pilot allegedly attacked the aircraft’s Indian captain and attempted to take control of the plane.
Despite suffering injuries, the captain managed to open the cockpit door. This allowed passengers and off-duty crew members to intervene and overpower the alleged attacker.
The intervention prevented the situation from escalating into a potential hijacking or catastrophic crash. The aircraft was subsequently diverted and landed safely at an airfield in Saudi Arabia.
No passenger fatalities were reported following the incident.
The incident has attracted significant attention because of the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and the possibility that the aircraft could have been deliberately brought down had the captain and passengers been unable to regain control.
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 was carrying passengers on a flight bound for Tel Aviv when the emergency occurred. The aircraft’s diversion to Saudi Arabia allowed authorities to secure the plane and begin investigations into what had happened during the flight.
Officials from Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the United States are reportedly involved in efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A major focus of the investigation is the motive of the co-pilot and whether he acted alone or received instructions, financial support or other forms of assistance from an outside individual or organisation.
Netanyahu’s statement that investigators were examining whether the attacker had been “sent” indicates that authorities are considering the possibility of a wider conspiracy rather than treating the incident solely as an individual act.
However, the available information does not establish that any government ordered the attack.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s warning therefore appears to be conditional on the outcome of the investigation. He said that whoever was ultimately found to have sent the attacker would face a severe response from Israel.
The development comes against the background of heightened regional tensions and longstanding Israeli concerns over militant organisations and alleged state support for armed groups. Iran has frequently been at the centre of Israeli security concerns, although any connection between Tehran and the flydubai incident would have to be established through evidence gathered by investigators.
The involvement of several countries in the investigation reflects the international nature of the incident. Israel is concerned because the aircraft was bound for Tel Aviv, while the United Arab Emirates is connected to the airline, Saudi Arabia was the location of the emergency landing, Oman is the nationality of the alleged attacker, and the United States has also expressed interest in determining whether a broader security threat was involved.
The incident has also raised questions about aviation security and the vulnerability of commercial aircraft to threats originating from within the cockpit.
The successful intervention by the captain, passengers and off-duty crew members prevented the alleged attacker from achieving control of the aircraft. Their actions allowed the plane to be brought safely to the ground despite the reported violence inside the cockpit.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to examine the co-pilot’s background, communications, movements and possible associations to determine whether the attack was an isolated act or part of a larger plan.
For now, the central allegations remain under investigation, and no foreign government has been publicly established as having ordered or supported the attempted attack.
Netanyahu’s warning has nevertheless placed the incident within a wider security context, with Israel signalling that it could take action against any state or organisation eventually proven to have played a role.
The investigation will therefore be closely watched as officials seek to determine the motive behind the attack, establish whether anyone else was involved and determine whether the alleged assault was an individual act or part of a coordinated operation.
This version keeps the allegations attributed, avoids presenting the unverified Iranian connection as established fact, and maintains a formal news-publication style.
