Nigeria’s opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed a seven-member National Reconciliation Committee, chaired by political economist Prof. Pat Utomi, to resolve disputes arising from its recent party primaries and reunite party members ahead of upcoming elections.
The committee will engage with aspirants across the country to address outstanding grievances stemming from the primaries, according to a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses, and National Secretary, Mr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
Veteran politician Engr. Buba Galadima will serve as co-chairman of the committee, while Mohammed Sanni Takori is vice chairman and Babatunde Alli secretary. Other members are Mrs. Dudu Mamman Manuga, Hon. Salvador Adegoke Moshood and Alhaji Haruna Pai.
The party also constituted three zonal sub-committees to coordinate reconciliation efforts in the North, South-South and South-East geopolitical zones.
The NDC said the National Reconciliation Committee would be inaugurated at its national secretariat at noon on Thursday, Aug. 6. A full list of members of the national committee and the zonal sub-committees is expected to be released at the inauguration.
