The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agri-Tech practitioners to strengthen collaboration aimed at promoting agricultural innovation, research, and national food security.

The MoU was formalised during a meeting held on March 5, 2026, where the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, expressed appreciation for the longstanding relationship between the University and Agro Allied Services Limited (ABEO FARMS).

Prof. Kehinde explained that the formalisation of the partnership was designed to deepen the existing collaboration for mutual benefit, noting that FUNAAB remains committed to ensuring that such partnerships contribute significantly to its three-fold mandate of Teaching, Research, and Community engagement.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, collaborations with industry players are essential for expanding the practical impact of research and for addressing real-world agricultural challenges.

He particularly highlighted the importance of community service, stressing that the University has been extending its impact beyond the campus to benefit society at large.

Prof. Kehinde further emphasised the role of modern technologies in improving agricultural productivity, noting that initiatives such as precision agriculture and other innovative farming practices are critical to enhancing food production in Nigeria. He added that effective utilisation of both human and material resources would enable the country to maximise its agricultural potential.

Earlier in his remarks, the Team Lead of the visiting Agri-Tech practitioners, Mr. Tolu Eko, assured the University of their commitment to strengthening the partnership and working collaboratively to advance agricultural development. He also noted that the collaboration would help address emerging challenges affecting food production, particularly climate change and its impact on agriculture.
