Obi made the promises on Thursday, October 29, 2026, during a town hall meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as part of his nationwide grassroots sensitisation tour.
The former Anambra State governor said the concerns raised by residents during the interaction reflected some of the major challenges confronting Nigerians, including kidnapping, banditry, corruption, excessive government borrowing and the deteriorating state of essential public infrastructure.
According to him, his administration would focus on restoring security, strengthening national unity, fighting corruption and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
The Ebonyi engagement followed his visit to Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Wednesday as part of the NDC’s nationwide town hall series.
Before the meeting in Abakaliki, Obi visited Nkalagu and Ezillo communities, where he interacted with supporters and residents. He also visited a market in Ezillo, engaging women traders involved in the sale of agricultural produce.
In Abakaliki, he joined party supporters on a road walk to the venue of the town hall meeting.
During the interactive session, participants expressed concerns about the growing security challenges in the country, particularly kidnapping and banditry.
They also raised questions about corruption, government borrowing and the declining condition of public hospitals, schools and other essential amenities.
One of the most notable contributions came from a participant representing persons living with disabilities, who highlighted the difficulties confronting people with disabilities and what the participant described as inadequate support from government and society.
Responding to the concerns, Obi said national unity, security and the fight against corruption would feature prominently in his administration’s agenda.
He also promised to pursue policies aimed at reducing poverty and improving access to essential services.
Addressing the concerns raised by the representative of persons living with disabilities, Obi said the quality of a nation’s compassion could be measured by how it treated its most vulnerable citizens.
He pledged to work with state governments to promote the inclusion, welfare, proper care and dignity of persons with disabilities.
The NDC presidential candidate said people living with disabilities should not be marginalised but given opportunities to participate fully in society and benefit from government policies and programmes.
His remarks followed concerns raised at the meeting about the challenges faced by persons with disabilities and the need for stronger institutional support.
Obi also pledged substantial investment in education and healthcare, identifying both sectors as critical to national development.
Among his proposed healthcare interventions is the establishment of at least one fully functional primary healthcare centre in every political ward across Nigeria.
He said the proposed initiative would strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots and improve access to essential medical services.
The former governor further promised to pursue measures to reduce the cost of living and expand economic opportunities for Nigerians.
He maintained that improving living conditions would require deliberate investments in social services, poverty reduction and policies that create opportunities for citizens across different parts of the country.
At the conclusion of the engagement, Obi expressed appreciation to the people of Ebonyi State for their reception and participation in the town hall meeting.
He also thanked party members, supporters and organisers who participated in the road walk and other activities during the visit.
The NDC presidential candidate described the town hall series as an opportunity to interact directly with Nigerians, listen to their concerns and understand the challenges confronting communities.
He reiterated his optimism about the possibility of building a country where security, effective public institutions, access to quality education and healthcare, and economic opportunities are available to all citizens.
Obi concluded with his familiar declaration: “A New Nigeria is POssible, and Nigeria will be OK!”
