Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has formally consulted the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, ahead of the 2027 governorship election, reaffirming his commitment to political unity, cooperation and sustained development in the state.
Governor Eno made this known during a consultation visit to the Senate President, where he led a delegation of political stakeholders and associates to seek Akpabio’s support and blessings as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking during the meeting, the governor said the visit was aimed at appreciating the Senate President for his continued support for Akwa Ibom State and his commitment to protecting the interests of the state at the national level.
According to Eno, the consultation was also necessary in the spirit of respect, political harmony and inclusiveness, stressing that leadership in Akwa Ibom should be built on cooperation rather than division.
“We came to appreciate you and thank you for accepting us and for protecting the interests of Akwa Ibom State,” Governor Eno said.
“We thought it wise to come home and consult you officially as we undertake this journey,” he added.
The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and unity among political leaders and stakeholders in the state, noting that political rivalry should not undermine the collective interest and development of Akwa Ibom people.
He stated that cooperation among leaders across party lines would continue to strengthen governance, attract federal support and promote stability within the state.
Governor Eno further assured President Bola Tinubu and Senator Akpabio of the support of Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that collaboration with the Federal Government remained essential for accelerated development.
According to him, the state would continue to pursue constructive engagement with the Federal Government in order to secure more developmental opportunities and infrastructural projects for the people.
The governor’s consultation visit is being viewed by political observers as a strategic move aimed at consolidating political alliances and strengthening support structures ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In his response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended Governor Eno for what he described as his humility, maturity and commitment to peace and unity in Akwa Ibom State.

He noted that Governor Eno’s leadership style had continued to attract admiration from many stakeholders both within and outside the state.

Akpabio assured Governor Eno of his support ahead of the 2027 governorship election and urged political leaders and stakeholders in Akwa Ibom to continue working together in the interest of the state.

The Senate President also called on political stakeholders to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that stronger collaboration with the current administration would bring more benefits to the state.
According to Akpabio, alignment with the Federal Government would help attract critical infrastructure, investments and other developmental interventions needed to improve the welfare of the people.
Earlier in his remarks, Assam Assam, the Director-General of Campaigns, described Governor Eno as a compassionate, humble and people-oriented leader who remains committed to service and development.
