President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that his administration is taking decisive steps to stabilise and improve electricity supply across the country, pledging that ongoing reforms in the power sector will soon begin to yield tangible results.
The President gave the assurance while addressing party members and stakeholders at the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he outlined his government’s commitment to tackling one of Nigeria’s most persistent challenges—unreliable power supply.
Speaking before a gathering of party leaders, delegates, and supporters, Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians have endured due to frequent outages and inconsistent electricity distribution. He said the situation was unacceptable but emphasised that the government was actively working to address the structural and operational issues responsible for the crisis.
“I am fully aware of the burden that unstable electricity has placed on our people, our businesses, and our economy,” the President said. “We are not where we want to be yet, but we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that Nigerians begin to experience steady and reliable power supply.”
Tinubu explained that his administration had prioritised reforms aimed at strengthening the entire power value chain—from generation and transmission to distribution. According to him, efforts are underway to resolve longstanding bottlenecks, including inadequate gas supply to power plants, ageing infrastructure, and inefficiencies within distribution companies.
The President highlighted ongoing collaborations with private sector players and international partners to boost investment in the sector. He noted that improving electricity supply is central to his broader economic agenda, as reliable power is essential for industrial growth, job creation, and improved living standards.
“We cannot build a strong economy without stable electricity,” Tinubu said. “That is why we are committed to fixing this sector once and for all.”
He also pointed to recent policy initiatives designed to diversify Nigeria’s energy sources. These include increased support for renewable energy, expansion of off-grid and mini-grid solutions, and the promotion of alternative energy options such as compressed natural gas and electric mobility.
According to the President, these measures are intended not only to improve supply but also to make energy more affordable and environmentally sustainable.
Tinubu further assured Nigerians that short-term challenges would soon give way to long-term gains, urging citizens to remain patient as reforms take shape. He acknowledged that the transition period may involve some discomfort but insisted that the government’s strategy would ultimately deliver lasting improvements.
