Ned Nwoko Breaks Silence: “Regina Daniels’ Brother and Friends Are Enabling Her Drug Addiction
A new controversy has erupted in the Nwoko household as Senator Ned Nwoko, husband of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, has opened up about what he described as a “disturbing pattern of drug abuse and enabling behavior” involving his wife’s siblings and close associates.
In an emotionally charged statement obtained by this newspaper, the senator detailed how Regina’s brother, Sammy Daniels, and several of her friends have allegedly become a major obstacle to her ongoing rehabilitation from substance dependence.
“These videos show Sammy, Regina’s brother, repeatedly coming to my home and harassing my children and domestic staff, especially whenever I was not around,” Nwoko said. “His visits were often aggressive and disruptive.”
According to the lawmaker, his relationship with the Daniels family has long been characterized by generosity and goodwill. “This is someone I sponsored through his last two years at the University of Ekpoma,” Nwoko said of Sammy. “I bought his musical instruments, rented and furnished a flat for him in Abuja, in addition to the house I bought for Regina in Asaba before our marriage for the use of all of them. I also routinely provided allowances to all members of the family, including her mother, Rita Daniel. Indeed, in the last two years, I have a record of transferring ₦125 million to her alone.”
The senator revealed that he decided to intervene when he began to notice what he described as “troubling changes” in Regina’s behavior, which he linked to her growing dependence on hard drugs. “When Regina started her rehabilitation, there was a clear instruction by the doctors to strictly restrict people, especially her enablers, from having access to her,” he said. “The therapy was arranged after I noticed she could go for 48 hours without sleeping, and would eat almost every two hours. These were clear signs of dependency and irregular behavior caused by substance abuse.”
However, according to Nwoko, Regina’s recovery process was persistently sabotaged by her inner circle. “Unfortunately, Sammy, Destiny, some of their siblings, together with a few of their friends — notably Sonia Uche Montana among others — constantly defied those instructions. They would come into the house uninvited, sometimes forcing their way in, and would bring her the same drugs she was being treated for,” he explained. “Instead of helping her recover, they encouraged her addiction and completely frustrated the efforts of the doctors and therapists working with her.”
The senator further alleged that Regina’s siblings and friends were not only enabling her addiction but were also active users themselves. “It is important to note that Lawrence, Sammy, his girlfriend NK, Destiny, Sonia, and others also took the same drugs as Regina,” Nwoko stated. “In fact, Lawrence and Sammy were the ones who first introduced and supplied these drugs to her. They were deeply involved in the habit themselves, and rather than helping her get better, they kept drawing her back into the same destructive lifestyle.”
Nwoko emphasized that he has always maintained a disciplined lifestyle and found the behaviors of Regina’s associates “reprehensible and totally unacceptable.” “I do not drink alcohol nor smoke. In fact, I am a vegetarian,” he said. “So I found these characters and behaviors completely at odds with my values.”
The senator recounted a particularly troubling incident that occurred just four weeks ago. “I woke up around 4 a.m. and realized that Regina was in my room and on the phone,” he said. “She was clearly high, and she knows that I do not want her in my room in that condition. I asked her to go to her room, and she told me that Sammy’s girlfriend was in her room. I was alarmed and angry because that girl should never have been in my house, let alone around Regina, since she is one of the enablers who constantly bring her the substances she is addicted to.”
According to him, he ordered that the girl be escorted out of the premises. “One of my drivers dropped her off,” he said. “Thirty minutes later, Sammy came to my house shouting and demanding that I come downstairs to face him. He said I had no right to ask his girlfriend to leave my house. He was ranting and threatening, waking up everyone, including the children.”
Nwoko described the incident as shocking and revealing of the negative influence surrounding Regina. “I eventually went downstairs and had to instruct the security to physically push him out of my compound,” he said. “The level of audacity was shocking. Without the influence of drugs, could he have been so bold and disrespectful?”
The senator also claimed that the pattern of defiance extended beyond his household to law enforcement officers stationed at his residence. “They did not stop there,” he noted. “On several occasions, they verbally assaulted and intimidated the police officers stationed at the house for security. The officers were simply following instructions to restrict access for the sake of Regina’s recovery, but Sammy and his group would insult and threaten them.”
He added that Regina’s behavior also became increasingly volatile whenever she was denied access to her enablers or prevented from leaving the house unsupervised. “Whenever Regina wanted to go out and I was not around, she would become extremely hostile toward the police and domestic staff,” Nwoko said. “She would shout, threaten, and use abusive words, insisting that she must leave the house no matter what.”
The revelations by Senator Nwoko paint a grim picture of the challenges he says he has faced in managing his wife’s health crisis. His account suggests an ongoing struggle within the family, one he believes is being exacerbated by a group of individuals who should be helping but are instead, in his view, worsening the situation.
