Governor Soludo’s son, Ozonna performs his hit song at Abuja Culture Festival

Ozonna Soludo, the first son of Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has officially entered the Nigerian music market with a performance at a culture festival in Abuja.

The performance, which formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations, marked a significant new chapter in Ozonna’s music career after more than a decade of professional work and performances, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The 32-year-old musician, songwriter and content creator has been involved in music professionally since 2013, when he released his debut promotional single, Me and You on Top.

The song reportedly attracted attention from music blogs in the United Kingdom and helped introduce Ozonna to audiences outside Nigeria.

In 2015, he followed up with a five-track extended play titled Believe It to See It, which featured songs including Wonderland and We Glow.

His early career also saw him perform in London alongside established international musicians and alternative music acts, including Crystal Fighters and Kyla La Grange.

Over the years, Ozonna has continued to develop his musical identity, gradually moving towards an Afro-fusion sound that incorporates contemporary African influences with elements of his international musical experience.

His recent releases include Take It Slow, released in 2023, and Big Flex, which followed in 2025.

The Abuja performance represents his most prominent move so far to establish himself within Nigeria’s growing music industry.

Having spent much of his professional career performing and developing his craft abroad, Ozonna is now seeking to connect with a Nigerian audience and build a stronger presence in the country’s entertainment space.

The move is also notable because of his family background. As the son of the Anambra State governor, his activities have attracted public interest, particularly among Nigerians who have followed his career and the political activities of his father.

Ozonna, however, has developed an identity of his own through music, social media content and other creative pursuits.

He studied at the Institute of Contemporary Music in London and has built a following through music, dance and lifestyle content on social media platforms.

His transition into the Nigerian market has generated considerable discussion online following his Abuja performance. While some social media users welcomed his attempt to establish himself in the Nigerian music scene, others criticised aspects of his performance, including his delivery and songwriting.

The mixed reactions have nevertheless placed greater attention on the musician as he begins what could become a more sustained engagement with Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Ozonna has previously spoken about dealing with criticism of his public image.

In a 2025 interview with content creator Goodybag, he reportedly said negative opinions would not compel him to change who he is.

His latest move therefore appears to signal his determination to continue pursuing music on his own terms while expanding his audience beyond the international markets where he has spent much of his career.

With Nigeria’s music industry continuing to attract global attention, Ozonna’s entry comes at a time when Afro-fusion and other contemporary African sounds are gaining wider acceptance both locally and internationally.

His background and international experience could provide him with a different perspective as he seeks to navigate Nigeria’s highly competitive entertainment industry.

The Abuja performance is expected to be the beginning of a stronger engagement with Nigerian audiences as Ozonna continues to promote his music and develop his Afro-fusion sound.

For the musician, the move represents more than a single performance. It marks an attempt to bring a career largely developed abroad closer to home and establish a lasting presence in the Nigerian music market.
