Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed profound grief and outrage over the brutal killing of a woman and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, within the Kano metropolis, describing the incident as barbaric, senseless and completely unacceptable in a civilized society.

The governor condemned the attack in strong terms in a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Tofa, following reports that unknown assailants invaded the family’s residence and murdered all seven occupants. The tragic incident, which occurred in Dorayi Chiranchi, Kumbotso Local Government Area, has sent shockwaves across the state and sparked widespread condemnation.

Governor Yusuf described the killing of a mother and her innocent children as a grave assault on humanity and a painful reminder of the dangers posed by criminal violence. He stressed that such an act violates the fundamental values of Kano State and would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“The killing of a mother and her innocent children is barbaric, senseless and a grave assault on our shared humanity,” the governor was quoted as saying. “This heinous crime has no place in our society, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay.”

The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the entire people of Kano State. He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to grant strength, comfort and fortitude to their relatives and loved ones during what he described as an unimaginably difficult time.

According to reports, the victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar and her six children. Their bodies were discovered after the assailants fled the scene, prompting immediate alarm within the community. The deceased were subsequently evacuated to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where they were confirmed dead.

The incident was formally reported at the Kumbotso Police Division, triggering the commencement of investigations by security agencies. Police authorities have since launched a probe to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killings and identify those responsible for the crime.

Reacting further, Governor Yusuf vowed that his administration would not allow the brutal act to go unpunished. He gave assurances that the full weight of the law would be brought to bear on anyone found culpable, regardless of their status or affiliation.

“We will ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are hunted down, arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the governor declared. “There will be no hiding place for criminals in Kano State.”

As part of immediate measures to restore public confidence and prevent a recurrence, the governor directed the Kano State Police Command to launch an intensive manhunt for the suspects. He also instructed the Kano State Neighbourhood Corps to step up patrols and community surveillance, particularly in areas considered vulnerable to criminal activities.

Governor Yusuf emphasised that security remains a top priority of his administration, adding that decisive actions would continue to be taken to protect lives and property across the state. He noted that the government would work closely with all security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are swiftly identified and apprehended.

In addition, the governor called on residents of Kano State to remain calm and avoid panic, assuring them that the situation was under control. He urged members of the public to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing useful information and promptly reporting any suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

“The safety of our people is non negotiable,” Yusuf stated. “We urge residents to be vigilant and to support security agencies by sharing credible intelligence that can help prevent crime and bring criminals to justice.”

The killing has sparked widespread outrage among residents and civil society groups, many of whom have called for a thorough investigation and stronger measures to curb violent crime. Community leaders in Dorayi Chiranchi have also appealed for justice, describing the incident as one of the most horrifying acts of violence in recent times.

Security analysts say the tragedy underscores the need for sustained collaboration between government authorities, security agencies and local communities to address criminal threats and strengthen early warning mechanisms.

As investigations continue, the Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for the killing of Fatima Abubakar and her six children are held accountable. Officials stressed that the government would not relent in its efforts to maintain peace, security and social order across the state.

The tragic incident has left the people of Kano in mourning, as calls grow louder for decisive action to stem violence and protect innocent lives from senseless attacks.
