Tinubu Accuses Opposition of Creating Hunger, Poverty Ahead of 2027 Elections
President Bola Tinubu has accused opposition politicians of contributing to Nigeria’s economic challenges, alleging that they are now using hunger and poverty as campaign issues ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu made the allegation on Saturday, October 24, at the launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign in Kaduna, where he appealed to Nigerians to support his bid for a second term in office.

“I hear my opponents talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger. They created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.

He defended his administration’s economic reforms, arguing that the policies were designed to address inherited challenges and establish the foundation for sustainable economic growth.

The President also dismissed criticism from opposition parties, accusing them of lacking viable alternatives to his administration’s economic agenda.

“Our opponents are angry because they are failures. They have nothing to offer you, but we have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunity,” he said.

Tinubu thanked the people of Kaduna State for supporting him during the 2023 presidential election, expressing confidence that another mandate would enable his administration to consolidate its reforms and development programmes.

He promised to expand opportunities for young Nigerians and urged voters to evaluate his government based on its achievements, ongoing initiatives and future plans.

The President also reiterated his opposition to the restoration of the petrol subsidy, linking the former subsidy regime to corruption, falsified invoices and fuel smuggling.

“Fuel subsidy is in our past. No more corruption. No more falsification of invoices, no more lies, no more smuggling,” he declared.

Tinubu maintained that the economic sacrifices associated with his administration’s reforms would ultimately contribute to a stronger economy and better living conditions for Nigerians.

He praised APC governors for their development projects and regular payment of workers’ salaries, describing their performance as evidence of the party’s commitment to public welfare and effective governance.

The President urged eligible Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote for APC candidates in the presidential, governorship and legislative elections in 2027.

He also called on supporters to scrutinise political messages and guard against misinformation throughout the campaign period.

Earlier, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented party flags to governors and governorship candidates from the North-West region as part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

Yilwatda said the party’s leadership and structures across the region were mobilising to secure victory at the polls.

The rally attracted several prominent political figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, the Vice President’s wife, Nana Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas.

APC governors, members of the National Assembly, party leaders and supporters were also present at the event.

The Kaduna rally forms part of the ruling party’s political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the administration seeks to defend its economic policies and secure another presidential mandate amid continuing public debate over the cost of living and the impact of its reforms.
