Twelve-year-old Nigerian actor Chibuchi Francis has made the country proud after winning a bronze medal in the Acting category (Ages 11–12) at the 2026 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The prestigious international event took place from 13 to 21 July 2026 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino and attracted talented young performers and professionals from more than 80 countries. Contestants competed in a wide range of creative disciplines, including acting, singing, dancing, modelling, instrumental performance and other entertainment categories.
Widely referred to as the “Entertainment Olympics,” the World Championships of Performing Arts is regarded as one of the world’s foremost platforms for emerging performers. The annual competition aims to celebrate artistic excellence, encourage cultural exchange and provide participants with international exposure and professional development opportunities.
Chibuchi represented Team Nigeria at the global championship under the leadership of the National Director of WCOPA Team Nigeria and Founder of Street2Fame Nigeria Performing Arts Entertainment, Ambassador Lovethpatra White Ekufu.
According to Street2Fame Nigeria Performing Arts Entertainment, the young actor’s participation was fully sponsored by the organisation as part of its ongoing talent development initiative designed to identify gifted Nigerian children and expose them to international opportunities in the performing arts.
The organisation said the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between local talent and global platforms by providing structured training, mentorship and opportunities for young Nigerians to compete at international events.
Reacting to Chibuchi’s achievement in a post shared on LinkedIn on Sunday, Ambassador Ekufu described the bronze medal as a significant milestone not only for the young actor but also for Nigeria’s creative industry.
She said the success demonstrated that Nigerian children possess the talent, creativity and potential to compete favourably with their peers from around the world when given adequate support and encouragement.
“The bronze medal won by Chibuchi David Francis proves that Nigerian youths possess world-class talent. When young people are given the opportunity to dream, prepare and compete, they can excel on the global stage,” Ekufu stated.
She noted that the accomplishment should serve as an inspiration to other young Nigerians who aspire to build careers in acting and other creative fields.
Ekufu also called on government institutions, private organisations and individuals to invest more in structured talent development programmes across the country, stressing that many gifted children remain undiscovered due to limited access to training and exposure.
According to her, sustained support for the creative arts would not only help nurture young talents but also contribute to national development through the growth of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
She reaffirmed Street2Fame’s commitment to identifying, mentoring and developing the next generation of Nigerian creative talents through professional training, mentorship programmes and international exposure opportunities.
The organisation disclosed that it is currently working towards establishing a nationwide talent development system that will include state and zonal championships, national competitions, professional training programmes and Nigeria’s annual participation at the World Championships of Performing Arts.
It further revealed plans to expand opportunities for young performers through international career pathways, talent exchange programmes and continental championships across Africa, with the goal of creating sustainable platforms for emerging Nigerian artists.
