
The Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force, headquartered in Onikan, Lagos, has held a New Year Prayer and Thanksgiving Service as part of activities to usher in 2026, reaffirming its commitment to effective policing, public safety, and professionalism across Lagos and Ogun States.
The event, organised under the leadership of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Zone, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, mni, psc, mnim, fisn, took place at the MD Abubakar Hall of the Zone 2 Command Headquarters. The service brought together senior police officers, inspectors, and members of the rank and file, alongside representatives of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other key stakeholders.
The interfaith service featured prayer sessions led by Christian and Muslim clerics, reflecting unity and inclusiveness within the Command. The programme was further enriched by soul lifting musical ministrations by gospel artiste Minister Serah, popularly known as Apekeola, performances by the Police Band, and a charge delivered by Pastor Iluobe Geoffrey. Participants gathered to thank God for protection, guidance, and operational successes recorded in the previous year, while seeking divine wisdom, strength, and direction for the responsibilities ahead in 2026.

Speaking at the event, AIG Fayoade expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for sustaining the Zone through what he described as a demanding yet rewarding journey in 2025. He noted that the year was a defining chapter for the Command, one that tested its resolve and refined its strategies, particularly in placing people at the centre of policing.
According to the AIG, the experiences of the past year strengthened the Command’s determination to consolidate on its gains in 2026 and beyond by confronting evolving security challenges and continuing to earn the trust and confidence of the public.
AIG Fayoade highlighted several achievements recorded by the Zone, noting that intelligence led operations, enhanced inter agency collaboration, and proactive patrols contributed significantly to the reduction of violent crimes, disruption of criminal networks, and swift responses to emerging threats across Lagos and Ogun States.
He stressed that these successes were made possible through teamwork, professionalism, and the unwavering support of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, as well as the Police Management Team.
The AIG also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governors of Lagos and Ogun States, the Commissioners of Police in both states, sister security agencies, civil society partners, and community stakeholders. He described their cooperation and support as the Command’s greatest force multiplier in achieving its security objectives.
Special commendation was extended to the Police Community Relations Committee for its role in strengthening trust and collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.
Reaffirming the values that guide the Zone 2 Command, AIG Fayoade restated the Command’s commitment to fairness, courage, professionalism, and compassion. He described policing as a calling that demands vigilance without fear, firmness without cruelty, and authority without arrogance.
The New Year Prayer and Thanksgiving Service served as a moment of reflection, unity, and renewed resolve for officers and stakeholders, setting the tone for sustained dedication to public safety and effective policing in 2026.
