According to a post published on X on Tuesday by Nigerian Community UK, Olowookere, who is from Blackley, appeared before Manchester Crown Court, where he initially denied the allegations before eventually changing his plea to guilty.
During the sentencing proceedings, witnesses reportedly described Olowookere as showing no remorse for his actions. He was alleged to have shaken his head while the judge pronounced the prison sentence.
The report also stated that Olowookere, who relocated to the UK from Nigeria, had his cultural background raised by his defence team as a mitigating factor during the sentencing process.
However, the judge reportedly emphasised that no cultural background or personal circumstance could excuse the sexual abuse of children.
Investigators have also warned that there could be additional victims and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with ongoing inquiries.
The case has renewed concerns about child protection and the importance of ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are thoroughly investigated and offenders are held accountable under the law.
Authorities have encouraged anyone who may have information relevant to the case to contact the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
