Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, husband of former Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has died at the age of 62.
The businessman passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Lagos State, according to a statement issued by the Adeosun family.
The announcement, titled “Announcement of the Passing of Mr Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun,” was signed by Rev. C. A. Adeosun on behalf of the family and made available to journalists on Thursday.
The family described the deceased as a distinguished businessman, devoted Christian, and family man whose life was marked by integrity, generosity, faith, and service to humanity.
“It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Mr Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos,” the statement read.
“He was 62 years old. Niyi was a distinguished businessman and a devoted Christian whose integrity, generosity, and steadfast faith touched the lives of all who knew him. He lived a life defined by hard work, service to God, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.”
The family said it was drawing comfort from God during what it described as a painful and difficult period, adding that they were relying on their Christian faith as they mourned the loss of a loved one.
Quoting a biblical passage, the statement urged relatives, friends, and associates to continue praying for the family as they grieve.
The late Anthony Adeosun was widely regarded as a respected figure in business circles and was known for his quiet philanthropy and strong commitment to family values.
Family sources said he maintained a close relationship with relatives and associates and remained active in Christian fellowship and community service throughout his life.
The statement noted that details of the funeral and Christian burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
Anthony Adeosun is survived by his wife, Mrs Kemi Adeosun; their children; and his siblings, including businessman and founder of Kuramo Capital, Adewale Adeosun.
The family also expressed gratitude to friends, associates, and well-wishers who had already reached out with messages of sympathy, prayers, and support following news of his passing.
“We thank all who have reached out with prayers, condolences, and support. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement concluded.
Mrs Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2018 and remains one of the country’s most prominent former public officials.
News of her husband’s death has continued to attract condolences from friends, business associates, church members, and members of the public, many of whom have taken to social media and other platforms to sympathise with the family and pray for the repose of his soul.
