APC Clears Governor Abba Yusuf for Second Term Bid in Kano

The All Progressives Congress has officially cleared Abba Kabir Yusuf to contest for a second term in the 2027 Kano State governorship election following the completion of the party’s screening exercise.

The clearance came after Governor Yusuf appeared before the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and submitted his nomination and screening forms as part of the process leading to the next governorship election.

The screening exercise was conducted at the Plateau Governor’s Lodge, where senior officials of the ruling party reviewed the governor’s credentials, political standing, and performance in office.

Speaking after the exercise, the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed that the Kano governor successfully met all constitutional and party requirements necessary to seek re-election under the platform of the APC.

According to Yilwatda, the party carefully evaluated Governor Yusuf’s records and concluded that he was fully qualified to participate in the governorship race.

“We have carefully reviewed his credentials and performance. He has satisfied all the conditions to seek re-election under our party,” Yilwatda stated.

The APC chairman further disclosed that, at the moment, Governor Yusuf remains the only aspirant seeking the party’s governorship ticket in Kano State ahead of the 2027 polls.

“As of now, Governor Yusuf stands as the sole aspirant for the APC governorship ticket in Kano State ahead of 2027,” he added.

The development is being viewed by political observers as a major boost for the governor’s political standing within the party and a strong indication of internal support for his administration ahead of the next election cycle.

In a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the clearance was described as a vote of confidence in Governor Yusuf’s leadership style, governance approach, and developmental policies in Kano State.

The statement noted that the governor’s administration had continued to implement programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, economic development, education, healthcare, and social welfare across the state.

Reacting to the party’s decision, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for what he described as their confidence and trust in his administration.

“I appreciate the confidence the party has placed in me. This support strengthens my resolve to serve the people of Kano State with dedication,” the governor said.

He pledged to sustain ongoing projects and policies under his administration while promising to intensify efforts toward delivering more democratic dividends to residents of the state.

According to Yusuf, his government remains focused on ensuring peace, stability, inclusive development, and economic growth across all parts of Kano State.

“My focus remains on delivering the dividends of democracy, promoting peace, and driving economic growth and inclusive development across the state,” he stated.

The governor also used the opportunity to call on members of the APC in Kano State to remain united and committed to the party’s collective success ahead of the 2027 elections.

He stressed that party unity and grassroots mobilization would be critical to securing victory for the APC during the polls.

“We must continue to work together to secure victory for our great party in 2027,” Yusuf added.

Political analysts believe the governor’s emergence as the sole aspirant for the APC ticket at this stage could help reduce internal party conflicts and strengthen early preparations for the election.

The development also signals the beginning of intensified political activities in Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most politically strategic states due to its large voting population and strong influence in northern politics.

Observers say Governor Yusuf’s re-election ambition is expected to dominate political discussions in Kano over the coming months as opposition parties begin consultations and preparations for the contest.

The APC leadership has continued to emphasize internal cohesion and early preparation as part of its broader strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party recently reaffirmed support for several serving governors and political leaders across the country while urging members to remain focused on strengthening the party’s structures nationwide.

In Kano, supporters of Governor Yusuf have welcomed the party’s decision, describing it as recognition of his administration’s achievements and leadership performance since assuming office.

The governor’s allies also expressed confidence that the APC would retain control of Kano State in the next election if party members remain united and committed to grassroots mobilization.

With the screening process now completed, political attention is expected to shift toward broader campaign preparations and possible alignments ahead of the governorship race in 2027.
