The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) Media Centre has dismissed as false the widespread claims suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is involved in the distribution of buses for the 2027 general election campaign. In a detailed statement issued on Wednesday, the Media Centre described the reports as deliberate misinformation aimed at misleading the public and politicising the activities of independent support groups.
According to the statement, the movement circulating the buses is not connected to the Presidency but is solely an initiative of a voluntary support organisation known as the Renewed Hope Ambassadors. The group, it explained, is one of several thousand pro-Tinubu organisations that have supported the President since his campaign days, operating independently with no direct input, instruction, or funding from the President himself.
“These groups have, for years, conducted various empowerment programmes and grassroots mobilisation efforts to promote the Renewed Hope agenda,” the statement said, adding that their current activities are consistent with what they have been doing even before President Tinubu assumed office.
While acknowledging the public’s reactions to the development, the PBAT Media Centre emphasised that the enthusiasm of committed supporters should not be misrepresented or weaponised by the opposition. It stated that many of these groups are highlighting the achievements of the administration at a time when detractors prefer to amplify challenges while ignoring the substantial gains recorded in different sectors.
To provide context on the ongoing reforms, the statement outlined a number of key accomplishments under President Tinubu’s administration to date:
-
Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product recorded a 3.98 percent growth in the last quarter, an indicator of stable economic recovery driven by reforms.
-
The national inflation rate, which had previously been on the rise, has now dropped to a multi-year low of 16 percent.
-
Over 700,000 Nigerian students have benefited from the student loan scheme, with applications surpassing one million within twenty months of its launch.
-
The consumer credit scheme has seen a N30 billion investment in various credit products aimed at supporting household spending and improving the living standards of citizens.
-
Foreign reserves have risen to over $46 billion, up from the $34 billion inherited by the current administration.
-
Nigeria is seeing one of its largest infrastructural expansions ever, with projects worth trillions of naira underway across the country. Notable initiatives include the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Highway, Calabar-Abuja Highway, and the complete rehabilitation of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
-
Passport reforms have significantly improved Nigeria’s global image and service delivery at immigration offices.
-
The aviation sector has witnessed remarkable progress through targeted interventions and policy reforms.
These achievements, the Media Centre noted, reflect the President’s commitment to driving economic renewal, infrastructure expansion, and institutional reforms within his first three years in office.
The statement further stressed that President Tinubu remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s challenges head-on, including the recent rise in terrorist activities in the northern region. It warned against the deliberate circulation of falsehoods designed to derail national progress or undermine the successes of ongoing reforms.
“Allegations linking the President to the distribution of campaign buses are baseless, misleading, and must be condemned,” the statement read. “Support groups have always operated within Nigeria’s political landscape. To twist their independent activities into claims of presidential involvement without evidence is unfair, disingenuous, and politically motivated.”
The PBAT Media Centre reaffirmed that no amount of misinformation or orchestrated propaganda will distract President Tinubu from the critical task of fixing the structural issues confronting the nation. It urged the public to verify information before circulating it and to support efforts aimed at strengthening national unity and advancing the Renewed Hope agenda.
