AIG Olatunji Disu Assumes Office as 55th Head of FCID Annex, Alagbon

Assistant Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has officially taken over as the 55th Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

His appointment became effective on 9 February 2026, marking a new chapter in the leadership of one of the Nigeria Police Force’s key investigative formations. He succeeds Margaret Ochalla, who is currently participating in a short-term professional training programme in the United States.

The FCID Annex in Alagbon, located in Ikoyi, Lagos, plays a strategic role in the investigation of complex and high-profile criminal cases, including financial crimes, organised criminal activity, cyber-related offences, and other serious infractions that require specialised investigative expertise. As head of the formation, AIG Disu is expected to provide operational leadership, strengthen investigative processes, and enhance coordination with other security and law enforcement agencies.

A native of Lagos State, AIG Disu brings over three decades of policing experience to his new role. Since joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1992, he has served in various operational, investigative, and administrative capacities across the country.

His academic credentials reflect a strong commitment to professional development and specialised knowledge in security and criminal justice. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University. In addition, he possesses multiple Master’s degrees in Public Administration, as well as Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology. He also earned an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation, further equipping him with technical expertise in evidence-based investigative procedures.

These academic attainments, combined with his field experience, position him to lead a department tasked with handling sophisticated and sensitive criminal investigations.

Throughout his career, AIG Disu has occupied several strategic positions within the police hierarchy. He served as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, a unit widely regarded as a frontline force in urban crime control and rapid intervention. His leadership of the RRS between 2015 and 2021 earned national and regional recognition, particularly for efforts to combat armed robbery, kidnapping, and violent street crime in Lagos.

He also headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a unit responsible for tackling high-profile and transnational crimes. In addition, he served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and later in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja—two jurisdictions with distinct security dynamics and operational challenges.

Before his latest appointment, he functioned as Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), where he oversaw protective services for critical national assets, diplomatic missions, and high-profile individuals.

These cumulative roles have afforded him experience in intelligence gathering, crisis management, personnel supervision, inter-agency collaboration, and strategic planning—competencies regarded as essential for effective leadership at the FCID Annex.

Speaking shortly after assuming office, AIG Disu expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for entrusting him with the responsibility.

“I appreciate the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, for counting me worthy of this opportunity to serve in this capacity,” he said.

He described his posting to Lagos as both an honour and a responsibility, noting his familiarity with the operational environment of the state. “I am excited to be in Lagos,” he added, signalling readiness to resume work in a city where he previously recorded notable achievements in crime control.

AIG Disu pledged to adopt a zero-tolerance stance on corruption within the formation and to prioritise professionalism, integrity, and accountability in investigative processes. According to him, strengthening the operational and investigative capacity of the FCID Annex will be central to his administration.

He emphasised that the department would focus on intelligence-driven investigations, improved case management systems, and enhanced training for officers. He also reiterated the importance of upholding due process and ensuring that investigations meet legal and evidentiary standards required for successful prosecution.

In his remarks, AIG Disu called on stakeholders, including sister security agencies, civil society organisations, the legal community, and members of the public, to support the police in the fight against crime.

He underscored that effective policing is a collaborative endeavour requiring cooperation between law enforcement and citizens. According to him, community engagement and public trust remain critical components of crime prevention and successful investigation.

The FCID Annex frequently handles cases that attract national attention, including financial fraud, organised criminal networks, and complex inter-state criminal operations. As such, maintaining public confidence in the integrity and efficiency of the department is a strategic imperative.

Observers note that his prior experience leading tactical and investigative units may influence a results-oriented approach at the FCID Annex, particularly in improving response times, enhancing intelligence integration, and reducing case backlogs.

AIG Disu succeeds AIG Margaret Ochalla, who temporarily relinquished her duties to undertake professional development training in the United States. The transition is expected to ensure continuity of operations while introducing renewed strategic focus.

Police authorities have indicated that the handover process was conducted in line with established administrative protocols, with detailed briefings on ongoing cases and operational priorities.

The FCID Annex at Alagbon remains a pivotal arm of the Nigeria Police Force’s investigative framework, especially within Lagos and the Southwest region. Given Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s commercial hub, the department’s role in investigating financial crimes, corporate fraud, and organised criminal enterprises is particularly significant.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCID Annex, ASP Mayegun Aminat, media organisations and members of the public were provided with contact details for inquiries, including a dedicated phone line and the department’s official social media handle.

The statement reaffirmed the department’s commitment to transparency and professional engagement with the media.

As AIG Olatunji Disu settles into his new role, expectations are high that his experience, academic background, and operational record will translate into strengthened investigative capacity and improved service delivery at the FCID Annex, Alagbon.

His appointment comes at a time when public demand for effective, transparent, and accountable policing remains strong. The coming months will likely serve as a test of his leadership approach and his ability to consolidate the department’s role in promoting justice and combating crime.
